Leilanni Nesbeth Selected In NWSL First Round
Bermudian football player Leilanni Nesbeth has been drafted 10th in the National Women’s Soccer League [NWSL], selected by the Chicago Red Stars in the first round.
CBS Sports reported, “FSU midfielder Leilanni Nesbeth is off to the Red Stars in a big rebuild year for the Chicago team under new ownership and a new coach Lorne Donaldson. She’s also the first member of the team that won the 2023 College Cup to be selected in this year’s draft.”
They also noted, “The 2024 NWSL Draft is the first league draft that will have 56 total selections with 14 clubs participating. The NWSL is set to expand to 14 clubs this season, welcoming in Utah Royals FC and Bay FC. There are over 200 draft-eligible players and Utah holds the No. 1 pick followed by Bay FC at No. 2.”
The Chicago Red Stars posted the images below and said, “With the #10 pick of the 2024 NWSL Draft, we have selected Leilanni Nesbeth from Florida State University. Welcome to the Red Stars. Nesbeth is from Florida State, and in the 2023 season she started in 21 games, scored two goals, and added five assists in 1,617 minutes of play. She was a leader in the midfield and helped FSU record 14 shutouts in 23 games. Welcome.”
