Minors & Riihiluoma Awarded Butterfield Cup

The Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge Committee, in collaboration with title sponsor Butterfield, awarded the Butterfield Cups to Dage Minors and Catherine Riihiluoma for their performances as the fastest local male and fastest local female in the 2024 Butterfield Mile.

A Butterfield spokesperson commented “The Butterfield Mile is a showcase event for Bermuda’s running community and as the sponsor we are delighted to be presenting these two awards to the island’s fastest female, Katie Riihiluoma, and fastest male, Dage Minors. Their performances on Friday, in what marked the 35th year of this electric evening event, were spectacular. Huge congratulations to them both and to all of the participants who tried out and raced this year. The challenge has been set for next year.”

Butterfield Mile Co-Race Director, Heather Cooper, added, “Katie’s and Dage’s performance in the Butterfield Mile last Friday evening was nothing short of outstanding and speaks to the high caliber of local running talent we have on island. Dage’s time of 4 minutes and 20 seconds was not only the fastest local male performance but also the overall fastest mile time beating the all of the international competitors for a second year in a row. Notably Katie’s time of 5 minutes and 22 seconds was only a five seconds shy of the overall female winning time of 5 minutes and 17 seconds by American athlete Amy Piccolo.”

Director of Marketing, Anna Laura Hocking, noted “The Butterfield Mile is the signature running event that kicks of the Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge. This year the runners enjoyed favourable weather conditions and fabulous spectator support. The 2024 Chubb Triangle Challenge is being hailed as a success with close to 1500 participants overall and approximately 500 coming from overseas and bringing with them almost an additional 300 persons [supporters] to the island.”

The spokesperson said, “The 2025 Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge international race weekend will take place from Friday, January 17h through to Sunday, January 19th, 2024. The action-packed weekend features the Butterfield Mile on Friday, BF&M 10k Run/Walk on Saturday, and the PwC Bermuda Marathon, PwC Bermuda Half Marathon or PwC Bermuda Half Marathon Relay on Sunday.
