The Bermuda Gymnastics Association [BGA] has expanded its operation by opening a second training facility called The Loft on Marsh Lane in Devonshire.

Anna Balada, the BGA head coach, believes the more centrally located facility will help attract youngsters to the sport who cannot travel as far as Southside, St David’s, to attend classes at the BGA’s national training centre.

The Loft, a 30,000-square-foot facility, officially opens on Monday [January 8] and will offer daily recreational classes for toddlers, children, and adults.

Balada said the BGA’s competitive athletes will continue honing their skills at the training centre in Southside.

“We plan to offer more gymnastics to local children, so they don’t have to drive to St David’s,” Balada told Bernews.

“Although we offer transportation to St David’s [for youngsters], some parents don’t feel comfortable putting their child on a bus – especially the younger ones.

“We will keep offering classes in St David’s, but this will help us attract younger children who don’t live near there.”

Balada said the BGA will also move its Saturday coaching sessions from Saltus Grammar School to the Loft.

“We will be able to offer many more classes throughout the week at The Loft and not just Saturday classes [at Saltus],” she said.

“All the equipment we had at Saltus has moved to the new facility – bar, beam, vault – and we plan to bring in some more equipment, such as two air tracks, aerial silks, and hoops.”

The BGA is also looking for young Bermudians to assist with their recreation classes at the Loft.

“We have some job opportunities for young Bermudians with the new opening,” Balada added. “If someone likes working with children and is interested in learning, contact us!”

Good luck with that horrible road surface. I do not understand why the businesses in that area haven’t banded together to get that road fixed.

That’s a fact . And coming out of that gate onto the main road is a nightmare too.
