Warwick Football Academy Offering Youth Camp
Warwick Football Academy said they are “offering full day camp programming through our developmental partners for players in the age groups from under 7 to under 15, boys & girls, for the upcoming February mid-term school break over February 12-16, 2024.”
A spokesperson said, “The February camp will include options for players looking to improve their game skills to register to participate in either the Euro Star Goalkeeper Academy, or Bermuda Brazilian Football School camp programming. The camp is the latest in the series of camp programs offered by the Warwick Football Academy, and follows on from the International Development Academy camp held at Warwick Academy in October 2023. Both camp programs will be led by coaches who have a current or past involvement with the Bermuda national men’s football team.
“Euro Star Goalkeeper Academy is based in Ontario, Canada and is led by director John Moreria, who is the current goalkeeper coach for the Bermuda Men’s National team. John has been in the role with the Bermuda team over the past several years, and was very instrumental in preparing the goalkeepers who successfully helped Bermuda reach the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2019.”
Goalkeeper Dale Eve produced some stellar performances for Bermuda at the Gold Cup, and speaks favourably of the work John did to help prepare the goalkeepers in the national team, saying, “John Moreira lead myself, Jahquil Hill and Quinacio Hunt through the fight of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup. Although the team itself did not push past the first round, the goalkeeping warriors won the country’s respect with an impressive showcase of matches. Tough training sessions and a top scoring save record shows just how important it is to have a top class coach. I wouldn’t have been ready without the man himself.”
A spokesperson said, “During the week long camp, dedicated goalkeepers will receive specialised training each day in drills and activities designed to challenge each goalkeeper and help them understand the importance of good technique. From fundamental techniques to advanced strategies, the curriculum will include focused drills for shot stopping, distribution, diving, crosses, 1 v 1, positioning, and decision making during game play. Working in combination with the field player camp will provide opportunities for the goalkeepers to participate in game play to help hone their skills and implement the techniques they have been introduced to. John will provide personalised feedback to the goalkeepers to help them to become a better player in the position.
“Bermuda Brazilian Football School is the brain child of former Bermuda national team captain and Somerset stalwart Dennis Brown. BBFS was setup to help improve the technical ability and psychological strength of individual players, and promotes learning through participation and enjoyment of training. Instruction and activities during the camp are designed to increase the confidence of each player when in possession of the ball by improving their technical ability to dribble, pass & control the ball, shooting & finishing, and crossing. Players will learn to make better decisions during game play, through participation in small sided games designed to increase awareness in attacking and defensive moments.
“The daily schedule for the camps, which run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at Warwick Academy School, provides those parents who require an option for full day programming. Training periods are balanced with rest breaks and a dedicated games periods. Players will have opportunities to participate in fun activities and skills challenges after lunch, before closing each day with games play. A Goalie Wars competition, skills competitions, and camp tournament will close out the week on the Friday
“Costs for the camps is $225 for 30+ hours over the week. Parents registering siblings for the camp will receive a discounted price of $200 per registration. Each camper is provided with a camp t-shirt. Registration is open to all interested players, and parents can email football@warwick.bm to request a registration for their child.”
