Somersfield Academy Appoint Tanisha Edwards
Somersfield Academy announced the appointment of Tanisha Edwards as its new Director of Student Life, starting September 2024.
A spokesperson said, “With an extensive background in education and a strong commitment to fostering positive change within communities, Edwards brings over 26 years of experience to this pivotal role, in both public and private schools; 10 of those years at Somersfield Academy.
“As Director of Student Life, Ms. Edwards will play a critical role in overseeing the school’s commitment to its mission, vision, and values and ensuring they are integrated into day-to-day operations, as well as supporting students’ social and emotional well-being. Reporting directly to the Head of School and working closely with division heads and the Chief Financial Officer, Edwards will be an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team.”
Riki Teteina, Head of School, said, “We are thrilled to welcome Tanisha Edwards to Somersfield Academy as our new Director of Student Life.
“Her wealth of experience, dedication to educational excellence, and passion for serving the community make her the ideal candidate to lead our efforts in supporting the holistic development of our students.”
The spokesperson said, “Her responsibilities will include overseeing the school’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI), ensuring equitable practices in recruitment and retention of staff, and championing JEDI across all operations and behavior support programs. She will also lead student leadership programs promoting JEDI, such as diversity and leadership conferences both locally and internationally.
“In addition to her leadership in promoting JEDI values, she will oversee learning and behavior support, scholarship programs, and personal development initiatives for students. Her role will involve providing mediation between students, parents, and staff, as well as implementing policies and procedures to support students’ well-being.”
Ms. Edwards said, “I am honored to join the administrative team at Somersfield Academy as the Director of Student Life and am excited to work alongside the dedicated team here to support the growth and development of our students. I look forward to fostering a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and personal growth that empowers every student and colleague to thrive.”
The spokesperson said, “Ms. Edwards holds a Master of Education degree in Organizational Management, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Bachelor of Science in Middle School Social Studies, and a Diploma in Montessori Education. She has experience implementing and managing programs and special projects and has also received extensive professional development training in areas such as restorative practices, educational equity, and diversity.”
