Baltimore Blast To Host First Outdoor Match
David Bascome’s Baltimore Blast are set to host the first-ever outdoor match in Major Arena Soccer League history.
The Blast, coached by former Bermuda national team winger Bascome, will face the Dallas Sidekicks in the Blast Spring Classic at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson on March 23. The match will start at noon [Bermuda time].
“As far as I know, this is the very first indoor game to be played outdoors,” Ed Hale, the Blast owner, told wmar2news.
“The idea came from the NHL games played at outdoor stadiums like Soldier Field in Chicago and Yankee Stadium. It has been an idea we have had for many years.”
The Blast beat Empire Strykers 9-7 at home yesterday [February 9], leaving them fifth in the Eastern Division, with six victories from 13 matches.
Bascome’s side are at home to Utica City FC next Saturday.
