Scott Barnes will look to claim a third straight Shifter Masters title in the Skusa Winter Series at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex in Florida this weekend.

The island’s top karting driver leads the standings after the opening two rounds of the competition.

The 39-year-old heads into rounds three and four at the same venue confident of another successful weekend – although he admits he has been disappointed by the low turnout in his class.

“I’m in a strong position to get the three-peat for the championship, which was the goal,” Barnes told Bernews. “It’s just unfortunate that the numbers are low.”

The Bermudian, who races for Ohio-based Magik Kart USA, said he will take on the tuner duties this weekend to save funds.

“I’m doing something a bit different to save money as I don’t have a personal sponsor,” he added.

“I’ll be tuning myself, which will be a little bit more stressful, but I’ll still have the support of my team.”

Barnes will remain in Florida for rounds two and three of the Roc Cup USA Florida Winter Tour, also at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex from February 16 to 18.
