After a successful first year providing free health services to males 40 years and older, the DailyMale Men’s Health Clinic is set to return on Saturday, May 18.

The clinic aims to address pervasive health conditions that have been identified as common threats to the local, mature male population, by offering free men’s health screening for prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease at the top floor of the Bermuda Industrial Union, from 9 am to 1 pm.

Last year saw more than 150 men take advantage of the free offerings and more are expected to do so this time around.

“We’re glad to have the support of the community to be back for another year,” said co-founder Dr Jonathan Makajuola. “This is a vital public service and we hope to make this a permanent fixture in Bermuda.

“Many thanks to organisations that helped to generate funds to keep the clinic going.”

Additional dates and venues for this year’s pop-up clinics include St George’s Cricket Club on June 8th, Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, July 6 , Work Workman’s Club, September 21 and Somerset Cricket Club on October 16.

“I think that the Daily Male and Prostate Awareness Bermuda, which is the group I am heavily affiliated with have a great working relationship and possess similar goals in raising awareness, with regard to prostate cancer specifically, and helping to encourage open discussion about the importance healthcare in general,” said DailyMale volunteer Rhydell Paynter, who is also a prostate cancer survivor. “DailyMale and prostate awareness for me to have been working together for the past year And support each other .

“We support what DailyMale is about. It’s doing good for many in the community who are under-insured, uninsured or under-served and have actually helped to revive the Bermuda prostate group.

“Prostate cancer is something that is very near and dear to my heart and there’s something we do on a regular basis, with monthly meetings every second Thursday at Blue Waters Anglers Club at 6 pm.

“Dr Mak supports us and we are very grateful for that , as well as our being able to support Daily Male.”

Recently DailyMale was afforded registered charity status and launched an appeal for donor funding in support of the charity’s intended purchase of a purpose-built screening van.
