Hawley And Smith Compete In China
Bermuda triathlete Erica Hawley continued her fine form with a fourteenth-place finish in the elite women’s race at the World Triathlon Cup in Chengdu, China, today [April 29].
Hawley, who finished a superb fifth in the World Triathlon Cup in Wollongong, Australia, last weekend, finished the Olympic-distance course [1,500-metres swim, 40.56-kilometers bike and 10k run] in 1h 59min 08sec.
Hawley, competing in a field of 46 athletes, had splits of 20:41, 1:00:26 and 36:45.
Julie Derron, of Switzerland, won the race in 1:55:18.
In the elite men’s race, Bermuda’s Tyler Smith finished 24th out of 53 competitors in 1:46:01, with splits of 18:20, 53:36 and 32:54.
Britain’s Max Stapley claimed his first World Cup win in 1:43:25.
