Wright’s Greenville Earn Point In Cup
Rick Wright’s Greenville Triumph earned a point from their opening game of the USL Jägermeister Cup – despite losing a penalty shootout at home to Richmond Kickers yesterday [April 27].
The match ended 1-1 after regulation time, with a late goal from Triumph captain Evan Lee sending the match into penalties, a strange quirk to the new cup’s format.
Kickers won the shootout 5-4.
Bermudian Wright, the Triumph head coach, said: “We learned a bit about ourselves tonight.
“It’s still early – first game in the competition. We get a point out of it, so we’re pretty pleased. We wanted to win and get all three points, but it is what it is. The crowd was phenomenal.”
Greenville face Forward Madison away next Saturday [May 4].
