Minister Commends AI-Enhanced CCTV System
“The project remains within budget and by embracing these technologies, we are enhancing our ability to safeguard our community and ensure that Bermuda remains at the forefront of modern policing techniques,” said Minister of National Security Michael Weeks.
A Government spokesperson said, “Minister Weeks, in a second visit to the CCTV command centre at the Police COMOPS compound in Prospect, witnessed the ongoing training of law enforcement personnel on the new islandwide system.
“The system integrates artificial intelligence-driven technologies, improving the standards in public safety and law enforcement efficiency.
“During his visit last week, Minister Weeks observed the specialised training sessions where police officers are equipped to utilise the new video and analytics system.
“The training includes mastering AI technologies such as facial recognition, object tracking, and anomaly detection, which are crucial for enhancing the officers’ capabilities in monitoring and responding to security incidents across Bermuda.”
The Minister expressed his enthusiasm for the project, adding, “I was very impressed by the dedication of our CCTV team, all of whom are Bermudian, who are mastering these tools to keep our island safe.”
The Government spokesperson said, “The training programme is expected to enhance the operational efficiency of Bermuda’s law enforcement agencies by enabling officers to detect and address security threats more effectively and proactively.
“As the Ministry previously stated, the project’s islandwide implementation encountered delays due to frequent storms last summer and other circumstances beyond the control of the Ministry and its CCTV partner Digicel.
“However, despite these delays, significant progress has been made in installing this new technology, and the Government is well on its way to delivering on its promise.
“The aim is to have the project completed by 31 July 2024.”

Concerned about public cameras being used to collect evidence that can catch criminals. It is as simple as that unless the camera picks you up:
. Hugging my wife
. Holding a gun
. Counting large sums of money
. Doing your homework 5 minutes before class
You know they are there so clean up your act or realize that private cameras on houses already see what you are doing so clean up your act
It’s as simple as that. You don’t complain at an airport or any buildings in the USA where they are prolific. The discussion should not even be entertained. And guess what, when they are not working, the complainers who need evidence of wrong doing ,will be the first to complain. Reminds me of how Moses freed the slaves and once he divided the waters and got to the other side they were angry with him because that side did not have any Macdonalds hamburgers.
