The Ministry said that “speed cameras are not currently operational in Bermuda” and “encouraged the public to be mindful of its ongoing and active CCTV installation project.”

A Government spokesperson said, “The Ministry of National Security advised today that it is aware of online imagery and commentary circulating regarding ‘speed trap cameras.’

“The Ministry however noted that contrary to the social media posts which have captivated the community’s interest, speed cameras are not currently operational in Bermuda. And instead the Ministry encouraged the public to be mindful of its ongoing and active CCTV installation project.”

“As a reminder our CCTV initiative is one of our Throne Speech pledges. As the Ministry has stated in numerous announcements, most recently October 2023, the installation of the new CCTV system continues and is well advanced towards completion. We’re very excited about its progress and anticipate updating the public about this project in the near future.”

“As we previously shared, this CCTV system will provide enhanced capabilities, such as license plate recognition, and it precedes the installation of speed cameras. It’s expected that speed cameras will form part of the new CCTV system, however that is another aspect that will be implemented as part of the project’s next steps.

“Lastly, the heightened public interest in this particular online activity serves as a timely public safety reminder to urge the motoring public to please be responsible when travelling on our roads. Please slow down, please be mindful of others on our roads and above all, please exercise care, courtesy and caution.”

People want to get home as much as you do.

Thousands including guest workers give up their cars to ride scooters to and from town during rush hours we need to cater to them, not hinder them.

Catch and trap for revenue is not a good idea.

Would Harbour road work as one way for them in and out.

Millions of dollars of lost production is lost at Paget trafic lights with the back up at 3/4 hr each way

Freankly I think that the majority of Bermuda drivers are more than capable of regulating them selves on our roads.

We have a frustrated few who are ruching to get city parking

If some business could opperate on flexi time that may solve some of the problems

“speed cameras are not currently operational in Bermuda”

Announcing that to the public is like announcing that the speed limit has been abolished. Who is responsible for that masterful thinking?
