Tyler Smith: ‘Time To Get Back To Work’
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Triathlete Tyler Smith has not given up on his dream of competing at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
Smith, who placed 26th in the recent men’s elite race at the World Triathlon Cup Samarkand in Uzbekistan, has spent the past month racing in Australia and China. He also had a training camp in Thailand.
Although Smith has not made the Olympic qualification rankings, he could still be selected to compete in Paris by the Tripartite Commission, who award invitational quota places to improve universality.
“The campaign didn’t bring the results I was after, but the times between made up for it, and I finished off this literal trip around the world without regret,” Smith wrote on Instagram.
“Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t able to get myself into the general Olympic qualification rankings, but there’s still a chance to get to Paris depending on the tripartite invitations [two spots awarded to athletes within the top 180 world ranking from countries with [less than] eight athletes average at the last two games].
“It’s out of my hands now, but regardless, it’s time to get the head down and back to work!”
