FC Copenhagen Sign Goalkeeper Nathan Trott
Bermudian goalkeeper Nathan Trott has been signed by Danish SuperLiga side FC Copenhagen.
A statement from the club said, “F.C. Copenhagen have secured Nathan Trott as a new goalkeeper from the upcoming season until the summer of 2028. Trott transfers to FCK from West Ham FC in England.
“The 25-year-old Nathan Trott has been with West Ham for several years, while he has been on loan to Vejle Boldklub for the past two seasons. Here, he has proven to be one of the best goalkeepers in the Superliga in the last season.
“In addition to his loan period in Vejle, Trott has previously been on loan from West Ham at Wimbledon and French club Nancy, while also playing international youth matches for England. Now it’s time for Copenhagen for the Englishman
“We are pleased to have finalized an agreement with a talented goalkeeper. The case with Trott is reminiscent in many ways of the ones previously seen with Jesse Joronen and most recently Kamil Grabara, who moved from England to a Danish Superliga club and performed strongly there before taking the next step to FCK,” says Sporting Director Peter Christiansen.
“I am both proud and happy that F.C. Copenhagen wanted me on the team. It is a fantastic club that has proven itself both in Denmark and internationally for many years. At the same time, I feel a great hunger to become champions again and take the club far in Europe,” says Nathan Trott.
“During my time in Denmark, I have experienced firsthand what it is like to play in front of the fanbase the club has both at Parken and away, and it is really impressive. I am very much looking forward to experiencing that, and I will do everything I can to ensure that they, the club, and the team succeed together.”
Head coach Jacob Neestrup said, “It is good that we have arranged this early, so Nathan can be part of our entire pre-season with the team. He is extremely strong in reactions on the line against close-range shots and has good qualities in the field. Additionally, we have received top references on him from England and Denmark, which have also given us a healthy impression of him as a person and a competitive sportsman. Now we look forward to getting him out on the training pitch tomorrow with the team,” says Neestrup.
A statement from West Ham said, “West Ham United can confirm that goalkeeper Nathan Trott has completed a transfer to Danish Superliga side FC Copenhagen for an undisclosed fee.
“The 25-year-old has spent the previous two campaigns on loan at Copenhagen’s domestic rivals Vejle BK, making 25 appearances in all competitions en route to the second-tier title and promotion in 2022/23, before featuring 31 times last term to help secure top-flight safety.
“A total of 22 clean sheets in those 56 games certainly caught the attention of 15-time Danish champions Copenhagen, who were beaten by Manchester City in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League round of 16 and are set to compete in the qualifying rounds for the upcoming season’s UEFA Conference League.
“An Academy of Football graduate, who first signed on at West Ham in 2016, Trott made one senior appearance for the Hammers, in a 4-0 FA Cup fourth-round win over Doncaster Rovers in January 2021.
“Besides his spells in Denmark, the former England youth international also enjoyed productive loans away from east London at AFC Wimbledon and French side AS Nancy Lorraine in 2019/20 and 2021/22 respectively.
“Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Nathan for his efforts in Claret and Blue and wish him every success in his future career.”
Why neither club stated the transfer fee paid for the Bermudian goalkeeper, multiple reports from the European media suggests it may have exceeded $1 million.
