A “vehicle with four occupants inside went through a wall and landed in the water“ on Harbour Road today [June 22] and “all four occupants were pulled from the vehicle with one of them reportedly having sustained a minor injury,” the police confirmed.

A police spokesperson said, “There has been a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a taxi on Harbour Road, Paget. Details are limited at this time. However, it is understood the vehicle with four occupants inside, went through a wall and landed in the water.

“All four occupants were pulled from the vehicle with one of them reportedly having sustained a minor injury. The collision scene is currently closed to vehicular traffic with diversions in place at the junction of Harbour Road and Lovers Lane as well as the junction of Harbour Road and Chapel Road, Paget.”

Update: A police spokesperson said, “Traffic is now being diverted around the collision scene using a single lane system, which is being controlled by Works & Engineering crews. It is recommended that motorist still use alternative routes where possible, while crews continue to asses the area.”

  1. Hilarious! says:

Glad that no one was seriously injured. Good thing this taxi is not an electric taxi because salt water and EV batteries are not a good combination.

  2. Triangle Drifter says:

The occupants of this vehicle are very lucky to be alive. The stone wall shattered and did nothing to prevent the vehicle going overboard.

When will proper steel crash barriers, designed to keep vehicles on the road, be installed at the many locations that repeatedly are getting crashed into?

How many of these locations have claimed lives yet Government does nothing to make the roads safer. Patch up the wall until it happens again.

Wailing “just slow down” does not work. Drivers are not going to stop yapping on the phone. They are not going to stop eating while driving. They are not going to stop driving dangerously. They are not going to slow down.

“Wailing “just slow down” does not work. … They are not going to stop driving dangerously.”

If I understand you correctly, you want the Bermuda Government to install steel crash barriers at places where cars can go overboard or down an embankment.

I am afraid we differ on that issue. It is not the job of any government to protect people from their own folly. No government can protect those who will not protect themselves without incarcerating people “just in case”.

      • Make it Make Sense says:

Last i checked governments duties are to maintain order and safety of citizens… Patching a wall so the same thing can occur does not do that and is also the definition of insanity.

i dont believe this person was blaming the government for the accident or trying to hold accountable for, rather the extent of it, which could have been minimized with a steel barrier.

veering off an embankment or overboard risks the life of the operator even more… its almost silly to say that gov isn’t responsible for fortification of these types of areas.

In that case i should be able to build a completely wooden home. I cannot though because of build/saftey codes which these stone walls are clearly not up to for drivable roads.

In addition rescue and salvage teams work 10x harder to retrieve a person and or vehicle.

lets say it wasn’t someone speeding or driving recklessly- better yet someone falls asleep or has a medical episode at the wheel. Thats not something of “own folly”.

A barrier works in favor if all. From resuce teams to clean up teams… even the driver themselves. Staying on the road would always be safer then the ocean or a ditch.

Sounds like more of an excuse for this gov not to do their job.
