Bermuda Shines At 2023 FEI Jumping Challenge
The 2023 FEI World Jumping Challenge came to a successful conclusion for Bermuda with Philip Correia, riding his horse Junior Cardento, securing 2nd place in the Zone 10 Category A 1.20 – 1.30m division.
A spokesperson said, “This dynamic team also ranked 78th overall out of 173 competitors worldwide. Only the top two placing Category A riders from each of the competing geographical Zones are invited to the FEI Jumping World finals. The invitees compete on borrowed horses supplied by the hosting Federation. This year’s finals will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan in October 2024.
“As each competing country has from 1st January – 31st December to host its qualifying Challenge, the finals are held in the following year. This marks the third occasion that Philip’s solid performance has earned him an invitation to the finals. At the 2016 FEI finals held in Morocco, Philip captured the Silver Medal. Sadly, Philip is unable to attend this year’s FEI Jumping World finals.
“Bermuda competitors also achieved solid placings in the lower heights. Competing in Category B [1.15 – 1.20m] Tyler James secured 2nd place in the Zone 10 division. In the Overall ranking, Tyler was 58th out of 123 competitors worldwide. Competing in Category C [1.00 – 1.10m] Michael Rodrigues captured 1st place in Zone 10. In the overall ranking he was 30th from field of 194 competitors worldwide.
“In the Team Category, Bermuda captured 1st place in Zone 10 division. Bermuda Team members were Philip Correia riding Junior Cardento, Tyler James riding Cruise Control and Michael Rodrigues riding Rambo. In the overall Team Category, Bermuda placed 16th out of 22nd Teams, with the top Team placement awarded to South Africa.”
