BEDC announced a meet-and-greet event for Summer Student Entrepreneur Program participants at City Hall on Friday [July 19], highlighting six successful students and promoting business skills development.
A spokesperson said, “On Friday, July 19th, the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] will host a meet-and-greet on the City Hall Lawn from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Summer Student Entrepreneur Program participants. This event will provide an opportunity for the participants to introduce their businesses to the community and gain valuable experience in selling and promoting their goods and services.
“This year’s six successful participants have demonstrated their eagerness to work and grow their businesses. Participants include:
- Nylan Tyrrell: Paxus – A clothing brand for Bermudians offering tracksuits, shorts, hats, and t-shirts for teens to represent their home country.
- Arhyiah Tatem: Mindful Treasures – Colorful, eye-catching jewelry for neurodivergent, queer, or disabled individuals, including those with mental health challenges.

“The Summer Student Entrepreneur Program [SSEP] is an eight-week program designed to develop young Bermudians into the Island’s next wave of entrepreneurs. The program, which started on July 1st, allows participants ages 13-23 to learn practical business skills such as earning revenue, creating a business plan, conducting SWOT analyses, and much more.
“The SSEP is not just about learning business skills; it also emphasizes the importance of community engagement and real-world experience. By participating in events like the Meet & Greet, students gain firsthand knowledge of what it takes to operate a business and interact with customers. This holistic approach ensures that students are well-prepared to continue their entrepreneurial journey beyond the program.”
“As we enter week three of the eight-week program, we see the students’ businesses beginning to take shape. This event aims to increase awareness of the program and allows the students to strengthen their business skills,” says Deshun Simmons, Program Coordinator. He continues, “We’ve been able to assist the students with the necessary exposure thanks to the generous support of the City of Hamilton waiving vending fees for the launch event. Their support is crucial for our budding young entrepreneurs.”
The spokesperson said, “The public is encouraged to come out to City Hall this Friday from 11 am – 2 pm to support these young entrepreneurs. By attending, community members can directly contribute to the growth and confidence of these young business owners, helping to foster a vibrant local economy.
