Minister Darrell Visits Summer Day Camps
“Government has promised and delivered more Summer Day Camp offerings, and it’s exciting to see our young people learning and participating in a variety of events and activities,” said the Minister of Tourism, Culture Senator Owen Darrell, as he visited several locations last week to engage with Bermuda’s young people.
A Government spokesperson said, “The public will recall that in response for the demand for affordable summer day camps, the Ministry provided additional funding in the 2024/2025 budget to expand the offerings.
“Through partnerships with private educational and recreational groups, the Government has been able to:
- Increase Capacity: More children are now attending summer day camps.
- Extend Camp Duration: Camps are available between July 1 – September 6, 2024; and
- Expand Variety: A broad selection of camp types are available, ensuring diverse and dynamic experiences.”
Minister Darrell said, “We were committed to alleviating the stress for parents seeking safe, affordable summer services for their children. Thanks to collaboration between the Department and private organizations, additional spaces were made available this summer.
“And it’s great to see the fruits of everyone’s labours. During my visits last week, I had an opportunity to listen to our camp counsellors and welcomed their suggestions of how can continue to ensure a fun and enriching summer experience for all our young people.”
Minister Darrell continued, “These visits are about showing my support for our young people, as well as gaining an understanding about how we can potentially make these programmes available to even more young people next year.”
The spokesperson said, “The Minister’s tour will continue throughout the summer, with additional visits scheduled in the coming weeks.”
