Premier Burt: ‘An Unimaginable Tragedy’

July 7, 2024

“An unimaginable tragedy,” said Premier David Burt this evening after “four individuals, including two children, were found, and pronounced dead earlier today.”

The Premier said, “The grief and pain for this family is heart wrenching and as a community we must support them with love and all necessary assistance. With an active investigation underway, our focus must also be on helping the Police in their investigation.”

The Minister of National Security Michael Weeks said, “This Friswell’s Hill community is a tight knit one and I know first-hand that everyone is affected by the events of today. The Ministry is coordinating counselling and other support services and I encourage anyone who needs this help to contact Bishop Leroy Bean at 799-7972.

“Additionally, I reiterate and support the call from the Police for any assistance to be provided that might inform the ongoing investigation.”

Premier Burt concluded, “This is an incredibly sad day, and my hope is that our island community will rally to support this family at what is an extremely difficult time.”

Earlier today, Acting Commissioner of Police Na’imah Astwood said, “The Bermuda Police Service regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident that was reported to us earlier today, Sunday, July 7th, 2024.

“Police and other first responders were dispatched to a report of unresponsive persons inside of an apartment on South Terrace, Pembroke, shortly after 12pm today. Upon arrival, officers found four persons, two adults and two minors, unresponsive inside of the premises. An on-call doctor attended and their deaths were pronounced at the scene shortly thereafter.”
