Tyler Smith Reflects On Olympic Journey
[Written by Stephen Wright]
Bermuda triathlete Tyler Smith has reflected on his journey from “Clearwater Beach to the River Seine” as he puts the final touches to his preparations for the Olympic Games in Paris.
Smith, 25, competes in the men’s triathlon at Pont Alexandre III on the River Seine in the French capital on July 30.
He headed to Paris yesterday from Denver, where he trains in Boulder alongside Bermuda triathletes Dame Flora Duffy and Erica Hawley, who compete in the women’s triathlon on July 31.
“Three wheels up and heading to Paris for the Olympic Games,” Smith wrote on social media.
“So much love for all the friends, family, coaches, teachers, physios, mentors who have got me here.
“None of this would be possible without y’all’s help. It’s been a long journey from Clearwater Beach to the River Seine but worth every moment to live this dream.
“Time to lock in, get off socials for a bit, and I’ll see you all on the other side.”
Smith won his Olympic spot through one of two universality places handed out by the Tripartite Commission on offer, designed to support smaller, emerging triathlon nations.
His seventh-place finish at the Pan American Games last year proved decisive in punching his ticket to Paris.
