BRSC Slogan Promotes Responsible Driving

The Bermuda Road Safety Council [BRSC] is using the slogan ‘Don’t Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive’ to promote responsible driving on the island.

A spokesperson said, “‘Don’t Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive’ is more than just a slogan; it’s a powerful reminder of the critical responsibility each of us holds when we get behind the wheel. Alcohol impairs our judgment, coordination, and reaction times, making driving under its influence extremely dangerous. The consequences of drunk driving can be devastating and far-reaching, affecting not just the driver but passengers, pedestrians, and families.

“Arriving alive means making the conscious decision to prioritize safety over convenience. If you plan to drink, take steps to ensure you have a safe way home. Designate a sober driver before the night begins, use public transportation, or call a taxi. These choices may seem simple, but they can be lifesaving.

“Driving responsibly means understanding that even small amounts of alcohol can impair your driving abilities. Legal limits for blood alcohol concentration [BAC] are set to minimize risk, but the safest BAC for driving is always zero. Don’t take the risk of driving under the influence, even if you think you feel fine.

“Beyond your own actions, promote responsible driving within your community. Encourage friends and family to make safe choices, and don’t hesitate to step in if you see someone planning to drive after drinking. Offer to help them find an alternative way home or invite them to stay over until they are sober. Your intervention could save a life.

“Remember, ‘Don’t Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive’ is about valuing life and making decisions that protect yourself and others. By committing to this simple yet profound principle, you contribute to safer roads and a safer community. Let’s all embrace this responsibility and ensure that every journey ends with everyone arriving alive. Together, we can make a significant difference.

“Cautious drivers = safer roads = safer Bermuda.”
