The Bermuda Under-14 football team have reached the final of the Caribbean Football Union Challenge Series after defeating Anguilla Under-14 6-0 in their Tier II semi-final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium today [August 23].

Coach Vashun Blanchette’s team, who finished top of group C after four successive wins, opened the scoring in the fifth minute when captain Z-Ani Jennings wriggled his way into the box before firing a left-footed shot past the Anguilla goalkeeper.

It was Jennings’ second successive goal, having scored in the 1-0 win over St Lucia in Bermuda’s final group game.

Forward Jeon Wolfe doubled their lead in the ninth minute, scoring his eighth goal of the competition, pouncing after the Anguilla goalkeeper spilt a speculative effort from the edge of the box.

Wolfe struck his second of the game with a strike from outside the area that sneaked beyond the outstretched fingertips of the Anguilla goalkeeper in the 21st minute.

Five minutes later, Jennings scored his second in the match with another trademark left-footed effort from outside the box.

Jennings was substituted just before the interval after picking up a knock.

Shortly after the restart, Wolfe completed his hat-trick after an error in the Anguilla backline to make it 5-0 to Bermuda.

In the 68th minute, substitute Chaz Edmead won a penalty after being fouled by the Anguilla goalkeeper before stepping up and converting the ensuing spot-kick.

Bermuda will face Barbados at the Dwight Yorke Stadium on Sunday [August 25].

    Great news. Well done boys!

However, I do wonder why in a few of the games where they were leading by a comfortable margin and had a huge advantage why some of the reserve players were not given the opportunity to play even for just a few minutes. Afterall it is a team sport – isn’t it?
