[Updated] The Bermuda Under-14 football team have reached the finals of the Caribbean Football Union Challenge Tier II Series and are matching up against Barbados this afternoon [Aug 25], and you can tune in and watch live below.
The team made it to the finals after winning five consecutive matches; the team started competition by beating Grenada by a score of 4-0, followed that up a 5-0 victory over Bonaire, defeated Sint Maarten by a score of 10-1, then recorded a 1-0 win over St Lucia, and a 6-0 win over Anguilla.
Update: After a match which ended up going to penalties, Barbados has won the CFU U14 Tier II Finals, with Bermuda making an excellent showing to make it to this stage, winning 5 matches to get to the finals, and playing a hard fought finals today.
The entertaining final finished goalless after regulation time, with both teams creating a plethora of scoring opportunities.
Z-Ani Jennings, the Bermuda captain, went closest to breaking the deadlock when he rattled the crossbar with a left-footed strike from the edge of the area early in the second period.
Barbados immediately responded by striking the woodwork themselves through their captain Amari Small when through on goal.
Xavier Thomas-Bassett, the Bermuda goalkeeper, made a smart save to keep the score at parity, diving low to his right to keep out a Barbados free kick.
Maleek Peters, the Barbados forward, then had a shot cleared off the line by a defender before Bermuda winger Zydon Lightbourne-Furbert flashed a shot just wide.
With the game heading to penalties, Bermuda goalkeeper Thomas-Bassett saved Barbados’ first penalty but Bermuda missed two of their efforts, resulting in Barbados claiming a 4-3 win, and Bermuda finishing as runners up in the group.
