MP Scott Pearman On Cabinet Resignations

August 8, 2024 | 18 Comments

“Premier Burt is clearly reeling after multiple high-profile Cabinet resignations,” Shadow Minister for Legal Affairs Scott Pearman said, adding that “the Premier’s selection of Health Minister Kim Wilson to bear the additional role of Attorney-General speaks volumes about his own position.”

Mr Pearman said, “Premier Burt is clearly reeling after multiple high-profile Cabinet resignations. And this week’s departure by two Cabinet Ministers follows in the wake of announcements by the Public Works Minister and Deputy Premier that they too are quitting politics. Departures from the Burt Administration are mounting.

“The Premier’s selection of Health Minister Kim Wilson to bear the additional role of Attorney-General speaks volumes about his own position. His decision reveals his limited options. It also reveals the extent of his faith in his backbench.

“Premier Burt admits his decision adds to Minister Wilson’s “already considerable workload as the Minister of Health”. Given his stated concerns, why not place the important Health portfolio in the hands of another MP?

“They say a week is a long time in politics,” he added. “The week is not yet over.”

“We must all hope, for Bermuda’s sake, that Minister Wilson will successfully manage these two substantial portfolios. It can be done – but it will not be easily done.”

  1. Well says:

Zane (COVID party boy) will throw his hat in the ring to be PLP leader at the next unless there is someone he can comfortably hide behind.

    PLP is in disarray.

  2. Oh really says:

She has 99% chances of doing both good when you compare the 3% chance the obaersubpeee have getting voted in again

    • puzzled says:

      And your point is what

    • iyiyi says:

Your mindset is the main reason why this country is in the state that we are in and sadly i don’t think there is any way past that anytime in the near future .
Just means more exodus and harder times to come ….that’s it .

      • Claudia Stone says:

So sad that you believe that anyone that is a black person who is ruining as a candidate for the Opposition is a surrogate. So what does this mean for Zane DeSilva? Based on your philosophy , this makes DeSilva the one minority PLP member as the surrogate for the PLP!?! Terrible thinking and racial profiling. Correct??

        • hmm says:

Yea just like a white peoples party running all black faces. Really sad.

          • JAWS says:

The oba has to have a black leader just like the Democrats need Kamala Harris.

          • Truth says:

When you have no other skills, you resort to racism.

            Sad and pathetic.

    • TRUTH says:

Actually if the white oba party continues to bring in more black surrogates as front men/women that can relate to the black voters, they increase their chances by 35%. They also know this which is why the oba will be rolling out more black surrogates soon.

      • Joe Bloggs says:

On your theory, every black person who joins the OBA is a surrogate for the white community.

Is the any scenario where you will accept that black people and white people can work together as equals?

      • Ya says:

Be careful you’re not supposed to talk about the secret plan. That’s all the OBA has every election.

      • Claudia Stone says:

And so how many white surrogates will the PLP be rolling out? But then again Jason Hayward said “I don’t need your vote.”so I guess one is enough. However, if the government is supposed to be the representative of the people, we would expect all colors and creeds would be included in the governing party, but this is not the case. There are continuous statements made by the current administration that the OBA is a white party and that it is not representative of Bermuda. How do you then explain that there are more persons of color than there are whites in the One Bermuda Alliance Party. The Bermuda population is approximately 52% black, 33% white and 15% mixed and other according to the census of 2016. So when we consider the actual makeup of the current administration, the government MP’s under the PLP based on race represents 29 = 96% Black and 1 white = 3.3% and yet the PLP says that it is a government of the people that represents all colors, creeds and cultures and yet there is only one white person. So this is an obvious lie, remember again Jason Hayward said “I don’t need your vote”, he was referring to white people, what he meant to say is “ we need your money and don’t want you to vote.” Don’t listen to lies believe what you see and have experienced, numbers don’t lie

        • TRUTH says:

“How do you then explain that there are more persons of color than there are whites in the One Bermuda Alliance Party”

What a load of lies Claudia Stone! The OBA is a white, white, white party that’s using black candidates as surrogates. Nothing more nothing less. Keep up the BIG lie and lose every election.

  3. kevin says:

not sure who wins the election , only 2 things are guaranteed in life we will all die and the plp are useless as a government . $ 3 billion in debt and a country with 60% struggling to stay afloat. The Flock will vote green because they have been convinced the other option will take them back to

  4. kevin says:

not sure who wins the election , only 2 things are guaranteed in life we will all die and the plp are useless as a government . $ 3 billion in debt and a country with 60% struggling to stay afloat. The Flock will vote green because they have been convinced the other option will take them back to the 1900′s . The problem is the economy is already back there
15%-20% of Bermudians have already left ….many more will follow ..

  5. Ringmaster says:

Just shows that Bermuda does not need 36 MPs. 9 Parishes so 18 MPS is more than sufficient, especially now that the PLP have shown twice that 1 MP can do the job of 2, as opposed to the civil service where it takes multiples to do the job of 1. Why pay for 20 PLP MPs to sit on the backbench doing what?

  6. Claudia Stone says:

You have no idea who MP Scott Pearman is. Perhaps, the majority of voters should take time to get to know him. The OBA has some stellar candidates unlike the present administration.

    • X oba Voter says:

So your saying the entire black population that votes PLP is wrong about Scott Pearman? LOL na. The oba is a 96% white political party that’s running all black puppets accept for a few. So you continue on believing that’s normal and you will continue losing.
