BUEI To Host Member Appreciation Event
BUEI is set to host a Member Appreciation event and the final Kids Hour Saturday of 2024 on September 21, with special activities and educational programs.
A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute [BUEI] is hosting a Member Appreciation event this Saturday, September 21. An exclusive area for BUEI members will be open from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., where a light lunch and special activities will be provided as a thank-you for their support of BUEI’s vision of fostering a widespread understanding, appreciation, and preservation of the ocean around Bermuda.
“The date also marks the last Kids Hour Saturday for this year, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and open to everyone, both BUEI members and non-members. This month’s topic features the exciting and elusive oarfish.
“Kids of all ages, including adults young at heart, will be taken on an immersive journey through the depths of the ocean to learn about the ancient and mysterious oarfish. This fantastic subject is sure to appeal to anyone who enjoys learning about our planet and the incredible creatures inhabiting our seas.
“There are two Kids Hour film and book reading sessions scheduled at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The ‘Giant Sea Serpent, Meet the Myth’ film by Go Wild highlights the biology of the oarfish based on research findings from a scientific expedition in the Mediterranean Sea. This month’s book is ‘How We Came to Be: Surprising Sea Creatures’ by Sami Bayly, which takes us on a wonderfully illustrated tour of the deepest depths of the oceans while traversing through millions of years of evolutionary history.
“All Kids Hour guests will be treated to kid-friendly museum tours, scavenger hunts, and arts and crafts in celebration of the last Kids Hour Saturday for 2024.
Saturday’s schedule includes:
- 11am & 2pm: Short Film & Book Reading
- 12pm & 1pm: Kid Friendly Tours & Scavenger Hunt
- 12pm – 2pm: Short Film and Book Reading
- 12pm – 2pm: Members-Only Lunch & Activities
“BUEI thanks its members for their valuable contributions. Together, BUEI is creating a great impact by partnering with members, supporters, and community partners to develop ocean advocates and inspire ocean stewardship.
“Kids Hour Saturdays are free for BUEI members and $4 per child for non-members. Kids Hour Saturdays will resume in January 2025. Please note, caregivers must stay on-site for all activities. Advanced registration is encouraged. Please email giftshop@buei.bm or call 294-0204 to register for BUEI’s Kids Hour Saturdays and Member Appreciation event.”
