The 2024 Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge [Chubb BTC] has achieved certification from the Council for Responsible Sport.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda continues to make headlines in sporting news with its first-ever event to achieve certification from world’s leading responsible sport certification program, the Council for Responsible Sport. The 2024 Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge, which took place January 12-14, 2024, was awarded the certification by demonstrating a commitment to responsible event production in five areas: planning and communications, procurement, resource management, access and equity, and community legacy.”

Rico Tesio, the third-party verifier who provided on-the-ground documentation assistance during the 2024 event, said, “Your commitment to sustainability, particularly in the unique context of an island nation and a volunteer-led event, is a powerful example of community-driven efforts shaping a more sustainable future.

“We’re excited to see how the event continues to grow and evolve while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability.”

The spokesperson said, “The Council for Responsible Sport is a 501[c]3 non-profit organisation that has been helping sporting event organisers produce more socially and environmentally conscious events since 2007.

“Some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events have achieved the highest level of certification, including the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, IAAF World Indoor Track & Field Championships, and the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Four Basketball Championships.”

Ali Hochberg, Chubb BTC’s Director of Sustainability, said, “Sport has the power to inspire positive change. We wanted to use our international event as an opportunity to begin working with stakeholders to promote sustainability and best practices in the broader community.”

The spokesperson said, “Mrs. Hochberg and other members of the Chubb BTC Executive Committee credit the support of key sponsors and community partners with the successful certification effort, including Aspen Bermuda Limited, the race’s Official Sustainability Partner, as well as Butterfield & Vallis, Bermuda Craft Brewing, Keep Bermuda Beautiful, the Corporation of Hamilton, and Recycle Bermuda. This successful collaboration highlights the importance of a cross-sectoral approach to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.”

Adam Barboza, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at Aspen Bermuda Limited, said, “We congratulate the organisers of the Chubb Bermuda Triangle Challenge for their dedication on receiving the certification from the Council of Responsible Sport based on the BTC’s commitment to sustainable event production.

“This highlights the organisers’ aspirations to unite various stakeholders for a more positive environmental and social impact for Bermuda and Aspen is proud to support this work.”

The spokesperson said, “The 2025 race weekend will take place from Friday, January 17 through Sunday, January 19, 2025. The action-packed weekend features the Butterfield Mile on Friday, the BF&M 5k and 10k Run/Walk on Saturday, and the PwC Bermuda Marathon, Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay on Sunday.
