Masterworks To Feature Nicola Muirhead’s Work
Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art will be showcasing the work of award-winning Bermudian documentary photographer and visual storyteller, Nicola Muirhead, in the next Rick Faries Gallery exhibition entitled ‘Descendants of Summer: A Preview,’ which will be opening on Friday, October 4.
A spokesperson said, “This exhibition showcases a sample of Muirhead’s ongoing documentary series Descendants of Summer, an eight-year photographic journey that delves into Bermuda’s rich and intricate heritage.”
“Descendants of Summer investigates the legacies of our Island community,” says Ms Muirhead, “exploring the stories that connect us – unpacking the diverse narratives that make up place and identity in Bermuda.
“At its core, the project seeks to preserve the oral histories of essential memory keepers of our Island, ensuring important testimonies related to our past are documented and shared for future generations through visual storytelling.”
The spokesperson added, “In collaboration with local artists, activists, political figures, historians, and environmental conservationists from the Island, this exhibition offers a glimpse into Muirhead’s expansive work, captured in a range of mediums including experimental film, digital photography, archival images, video, artefacts, and interviews – a portion of which will be in the exhibition.
Opening Reception and Exhibition Dates
“The public is invited to the opening reception on Friday, October 4, from 5:30 – 7pm. The exhibition will be available for viewing from October 4 – October 29, 2024.
