“More than sixty cannabis plants in various stages of growth” were “seized and subsequently destroyed,” the police confirmed.

A police spokesperson said, “Shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, police officers were on mobile patrol when they had occasion to attend a property in the area of Mission Lane, Pembroke.

“A check of the property drew them to the roof of a derelict building where more than sixty cannabis plants in various stages of growth, were found.

“The plants were seized and subsequently destroyed. The public is reminded that cannabis remains a controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972.

“While the Misuse of Drugs [Decriminalisation of Cannabis] Amendment Act 2017 removed criminal offences for simple possession by any person of 7 grams or less of cannabis, the Act does not make it legal for a person to consume, cultivate, traffic or import cannabis in any quantity.

“Under the Act, a police officer of any rank has the lawful authority to seize any amount of cannabis in the possession of any person.

“Even if a person is caught with 7 grams or less of cannabis, that person’s residence, vessel or vehicle may be subject to search, if the police suspect other offences, such as possession with an intent to supply, or other criminal offences.

“It is still illegal to use, sell [supply], handle, or import cannabis and a person can expect to be prosecuted for such offences.

“If a person is caught with more than 7 grams of cannabis, that person should expect to be arrested and prosecuted, likely resulting in a criminal conviction.”

        You’re a little out of touch ????

        • Dejavu says:

No you’re out of touch lol. Because you plant a seed doesn’t make you a farmer moron. There’s not enough or good enough quality of bermy weed to supply the island. If it was nothing would need to be imported. We don’t make any hard drugs either. Stop smoking seeds and stems an you would know this lol

          • StantheMaintenanceMan says:

you think that there aren’t a whole bunch of micro operations going on in Bermuda for personal use. You said Who smokes Bermuda weed. Bermudians that grow good weed for themselves. So all knowing muppet the fact is there are many Bermudians that smoke Bermuda weed and I never said that they supply the island you made up that in your own head… now go pay your top dollar for mediocrity.

Proof that smoking weed kills brain cells! With all the drones flying around today, google earth shots, and even a plane in the sky doing tours around the island, some genius though that plant pots on top of a building wouldn’t stand out at all?

“It is still illegal to use, sell [supply], handle, or import cannabis and a person can expect to be prosecuted for such offences.“
So it decriminalized but someone has to import it then someone handles it so that it can be sold and used.
    This is stupid…

  6. StantheMaintenanceMan says:

All the talk about keeping the borders safe but all you’re doing is giving importers reason to supply and not the ones you’re decriminalizing. Keep the customers outta jail… ????????????????
Am I missing something or am I too logical.

It would seem that the police and the Government are not on the same page

So how does it work with the THC gummies you can (or “could” buy) at the shops and pharmacies? Will granny who takes one gummy per day for chronic pain be thrown in the slammer?

And when will granny be able to buy them again??
