Kaden Hopkins Prepares For Elite Road Race
Bermuda cyclist Kaden Hopkins is set for one of the toughest races of his career when he competes in the elite men’s road race at the UCI World Cycling Championships in Zurich, Switzerland, on Sunday [September 29].
Hopkins, who previously raced in the under-23 category, earned his place in the road race thanks to his UCI rider ranking [343rd], having accumulated 272 points this season while racing for the French professional team Vendée U.
The 24-year-old finished 32nd in the elite men’s time-trial in Zurich last weekend.
“The race of the year where you do everything you can to make sure all the pieces come together on the day,” Hopkins wrote on social media today.
“Sometimes, they don’t, but it’s part of the game. Nonetheless, I’m always proud to wear this jersey and grateful for the support of the Bermuda Bicycle Association.”
Hopkins told Bernews in a recent interview that finishing the gruelling 273.9-kilometre road race will be an achievement.
“A few days now to reset and refocus before the road race this Sunday,” he added on social media.
