Police: O’Neil Swaby Retires After 20 Years
Detective Constable O’Neil Swaby has retired from the Bermuda Police Service after 20 years of service.
A police spokesperson said, “Friday, 18th October 2024, marked the retirement of Detective Constable [DC] O’Neil Swaby.
“A proud Jamaican, he joined the Bermuda Police Service [BPS] 20 years ago and has a total of 35 years’ policing experience.
“At this morning’s retirement recognition gathering, colleagues from Commissioner to Constable + civilian staff spoke of his advocacy for women in policing and in general, as well as his integrity, professionalism and community spirit.
“Known for his genuine willingness to help people, DC Swaby was a valued member of the BPS Critical Incident Stress Management [CISM] Team, supporting police colleagues at work and in his own personal time.
“He was also recognised for his often profound poetry performances, impeccable attire and love of music.
“DC Swaby, we wish you all the best in your future endeavours!”

Brother O’Neil Swabey, was definitely a great officer, all around in his duties. As a Detective in his Division, where I worked with him and the rest of the officers there, as a Civilian for 7 years, having just retired also, there are no words in describing how much he will be missed.
Congratulations to him, in all his future endeavours. In addition, he is also going to be a miss, as being one of the most gifted singers as well, especially as to whenever he shared his golden voice with us.
