Nesbeth Helps Chicago Reach Play-Offs
Bermuda women’s national team player LeiLanni Nesbeth has helped the Chicago Red Stars reach the National Women’s Soccer League [NWSL] play-offs.
The attacking midfielder, who has made 16 appearances this season, joined the Red Stars on a three-year contract at the start of the season.
Their play-off berth was secured after the Washington Spirit beat Racing Louisville FC 4-1 last weekend.
The Red Stars face the Spirit on Sunday [October 20].
The play-offs start on November 9, with top four seeds [Kansas City Current/New Jersey/New York Gotham/Orlando Pride and the Spirit] hosting the quarter-final matches.
The quarter-final winners will advance to the semi-finals on November 16 and 17, before the NWSL Championship game on November 23 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
“Chicago now single-handedly boasts the second most play-off appearances [eight] in NWSL history, participating in seven consecutive play-off tournaments between 2015 and 2022 and only bested for the record by Portland Thorns FC’s nine play-off appearances,” the club said.
“Chicago Red Stars head coach, Lorne Donaldson, is the seventeenth head coach in league history to reach the play-offs in their first season at the helm of an NWSL team.”
