LCCA Seeks Support For Families’ Holiday Aid
The Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association is seeking support to provide holiday assistance to 300 families with grocery and BELCO vouchers.
A spokesperson said, “The dedicated staff at the Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association [LCCA] are no strangers when it comes to helping those in need. They do it all year long.
“Whether it be providing food vouchers, paying for medications or arranging life-saving overseas medical attention, amongst many other things, they can often be counted on to help in difficult periods…and having been doing so for over 90 years. They also know that, right now, the requests for help, especially food vouchers, is growing very fast.”
Marisa Nearon Howard, Executive Director, said, “We have seen lately other helping charities discontinue food vouchers and recently we saw the Salvation Army announcing it was running out of food and the funds to purchase it. This has meant that the demands on us for assistance are increasing dramatically.”
LCCA staff, Dilina Butterfield Trott, Dayjah Bean, Marisa Nearon Howard and Donna Leverock Grant.
The spokesperson said, “As the Holiday season fast approaches, the LCCA hopes to help to bring some extra cheer to those in need. It aims to support 300 families, each receiving a $200 grocery voucher and a $100 BELCO voucher – $300 per family – to help cover basic needs during the season.”
Mrs. Howard added, “While $300 may seem substantial, in Bermuda’s current climate, it can mean the difference between hardship and stability for many. We believe that with this support, we can bring holiday cheer and relief to those in need.”
The LCCA is committing $36,000 from its existing funds, enough to help 120 families, which is less than the current waiting list. Donna Grant of the LCCA said, “We’ve just been overwhelmed with requests for assistance, and we don’t see it diminishing.”
The spokesperson said, “So, the LCCA is inviting businesses, individuals, and organizations to partner with them this holiday season to help another 180 families, whether through sponsorship, donations, or a collaborative fundraising event, community support will ensure our Christmas program continues for those who need it most.”
Mrs. Howard says, “We truly hope the whole community will get behind us with this initiative. We don’t aim to solve the problem but hope that the little that we do will bring cheer and make a big difference.”
The spokesperson said, “Donations can easily be made by visiting lcca.bm.”
