Air travel just got festive at Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport after Skyport switched on the lights on the island’s biggest Christmas tree.

Setting the Scene
A spokesperson said, “Local dignitaries, airport stakeholders and staff with their families came together in a special reception to mark the beginning of the holiday season. Musical entertainment was provided by violinist Tiffany Fox and singer/guitarist Pier Simons, who performed Christmas classics to set the mood. Mrs Claus and her elf made an appearance to hand out chocolates and take special photos with the younger members of the audience.

“The tree, set up before security at the airport, is an enormous 38 feet tall – approximately the length of an American school bus! – and is bedecked in 1,000 baubles and other decorations along with 26,550 Christmas lights for a total staggering weight of more than 2 metric tonnes.
The biggest Christmas tree in Bermuda.
Upcoming Festivities
“The festive scene, which includes a selfie station and seating for those waiting to check in or for transportation, will also serve as a backdrop to Skyport’s upcoming festivities. Skyport’s Great Bermuda Carol-Off will be taking on Monday, December 2, Wednesday December 4 and Thursday, December 5 and the full schedule of performances, including professional musicians, has been released as follows:
“Shortlisted schools will perform in a special Winners’ Concert on Thursday, December 12, 7PM – 8:30PM.
“Tickets for both the concert and the competition can be booked for free at www.PTIX.bm/Event/8100/Bermuda-Carol-Off. Booking isn’t mandatory but is encouraged to avoid disappointment. During the events, parking will be available for free in the short-term parking lot.

“In addition to taking in the soaring tunes of the island’s school choirs, visitors will also be able to peruse market stalls in Skyport’s Christmas vendors market. Open throughout the Carol-Off and Winners’ Concert, vendors will include Ahmani’s Cookies, Enzuri and Island Soul Pottery.”
Nikki Fagan, Head of Brand Development & Communications at Skyport, said, “As we enter the holiday season, we are proud to host events like The Great Bermuda Carol-Off and its Winners’ Concert, which bring the community together in celebration of the incredible talents within our schools. These moments are about more than just music – they are about connection, creativity and showcasing the best of Bermuda. At Skyport, we’re honoured to support initiatives that uplift our local arts and provide meaningful opportunities for young performers to shine. We look forward to welcoming everyone to share in the joy of the Christmas season.”

Glad Skyport has their priorities straight. The tree isn’t even real lol
Do you prefer cutting down a real tree every year and importing it instead of buying a fake tree and keeping it for 10 to 15 years? Sure let’s definitely continue this priorities conversation.
It was painful to read the negative response above and why so many people shy away from organizing things.
It appears that Skyport is trying to brighten people’s travel. Why does that merit a sarcastic comment?
Skyport has little control over how many people pass through the airport each day, that is mostly a function of passenger loads on aircraft. What Skyport does have control over is the decor of the airport and whether it is pleasing to the travelers.
Such a sad and unappreciated comment. You must live a miserable life. Guess you don’t travel. Skyport deserve top marks for oranizing something that buils on our past heritage of school concerts. I hope the songs will help erase your negativity.
