Ministry Clarifies PATI Response Discussions
The Ministry of Home Affairs said they “wish to clarify recent discussions regarding the PATI response and the reports provided by the independent panel.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The release of the PATI response related to the panel’s initial July 2024 report is entirely unrelated to the Ministry’s response to the panel’s final October 2024 report.
“To provide context, in July 2024, the independent panel submitted its initial report to the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, following a review by the Ministry and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, it was determined to be incomplete, and all the terms of reference still needed to be fulfilled.
“Further clarification was required to ensure the recommendations could be fully and effectively considered. Specifically, the Ministry requested that the report be reformatted to better distinguish between spatial and non-spatial comments, include direct commentary and recommendations on the draft Marine Spatial Plan, and analyse how spatially related suggestions might impact the plan.
“The Ministry also invited the panel to request any additional technical information that may have been unavailable during their initial deliberations. It is important to note that the panel was never asked to reconsider or alter its recommendations.
“The independent panel agreed to these requests and extended its timeline, submitting the final report to the Ministry on October 10, 2024.
“Following receipt, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources thoroughly reviewed the final report, carefully considered the panel’s recommendations, and formally responded to the Independent Panel Chair.
“The Ministry remains committed to transparency and collaboration to ensure a balanced and effective Marine Spatial Plan.”
