Royal Bermuda Regiment Hosts Open Day
The Royal Bermuda Regiment Open Day on Saturday provided a hands-on glimpse into the opportunities within the Regiment.
A spokesperson said, “From infantry drills and medical assistance to facilitating communications and patrolling Bermuda’s waters, participants experienced how varied and rewarding life as a soldier can be.
“The event combined practical demonstrations with insights into the RBR’s history and purpose in a relaxed, informal setting. Attendees were encouraged to interact with officers and soldiers to learn more about service life and its benefits.”
Corporal Joliza Vanderpool explained: “The Open Day was about bringing civilians into the Regiment to see how we operate and discover what might pique their interest in our various departments. It’s an opportunity to show how joining the RBR can help people grow in different areas and transfer those skills to their civilian lives.”
A spokesperson added, “Activities included a tour of Warwick Camp, introductions to the Regiment’s medics, Regimental Police, and communications teams, as well as a walk-through of the RBR assault course. Participants also visited the Sandys base of the RBR Coast Guard at Scenic House, where they learned about maritime operations and enjoyed a brief patrol aboard one of the vessels.
“The day concluded with a visit to Government House at Langton Hill in Pembroke, where attendees observed troops engaging in a security-focused training exercise.
Major Dwight Robinson, the Regiment Career Management Officer, emphasized: “The Open Day gave people a chance to experience what we do firsthand—touch it, feel it, and smell it—without feeling obligated. There’s a soldier in everyone; it’s just about creating the right environment to draw that out and show them the possibilities.”
Looking ahead to the next Open Day on November 30, Cpl Vanderpool encouraged potential participants: “Even if you’re unsure or feel that you don’t have the qualities of a soldier, come along. See what we’re about, and you might discover that everyone has a soldier within them.”
A spokesperson added, “For more information or to register for the upcoming Open Day, call 238-1045 or email rbr.recruiting@gov.bm.”
