Salvation Army To Launch Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign — the organization’s largest public fundraiser — kicks off this Wednesday [Nov 27] at 12pm on the steps of City Hall in Hamilton.

A spokesperson said, “The launch event will feature Her Excellency the Governor, local Bermuda Government and City of Hamilton dignitaries, The Towne Crier with a proclamation, the Northlands Primary School Choir, The Salvation Army Band, and local Salvation Army leaders.”

This year’s campaign is critical to addressing the growing needs of families facing food insecurity and financial hardship. “Last year just under 50,000 visits were made to the Salvation Army for assistance,” says Captain Dennis Maybury, Bermuda Regional Public Relations Officer. “Without volunteers and community support, we can’t meet this growing demand. For The Salvation Army to provide these critical services throughout the year we rely on community efforts to raise one million dollars in kettles and donation support.”

The spokesperson said, “The Salvation Army is urgently calling on businesses, schools, community groups, and families to adopt a kettle for a day. By volunteering just one hour, you can help ensure a full day of fundraising, directly supporting programs that provide food, clothing, toys, and other essential services to those in need.

“In addition to the Christmas Kettle Campaign, The Salvation Army has introduced two other giving initiatives:

Anonymous Santa: Donors can fulfill wish lists for children in need, spreading joy and hope during the Christmas season. To participate, you can call The Salvation Army’s Santa Anonymous Help Line at 537-6455. Santa’s helper will assist you in pledging your gift.
Fill the Salvation Army Truck of Hope: An initiative in partnership with Inter-Island Communications, encouraging the public to donate non-perishable goods, gift cards, and/or new toys [unwrapped]. On Friday, December 6, bring your donation[s] to The Salvation Army Truck of Hope parked at 49 Union Square, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be sure to come into the studio and give a Christmas shoutout on one of their radio stations.

“Last year, the Salvation Army provided 8,085 seniors and local families with food hampers and toys at Christmas. This year, the need is even greater. Every dollar raised stays in Bermuda, funding essential programs such as housing support, food banks, hot meals, street ministry, substance recovery, and emergency relief—not just during Christmas but year round.
