World Children’s Day: ‘Listen To The Future’

This World Children’s Day, Family Centre encourages the community to embrace this year’s theme, “Listen to the Future.”

A spokesperson said, “This World Children’s Day Family Centre encourages the community to ‘Listen to the Future’, which is this year’s theme. World Children’s Day is officially celebrated on November 20, and Family Centre is asking schools and corporate Bermuda to wear blue on Friday, November 22 in support of children’s rights to be valued, protected and nurtured.Family Centre is committed to building a brighter future for our youth by continuing to listen to their voices.”

Family Centre’s Executive Director, Dr. Sandy De Silva stated, “World Children’s Day is very special to Family Centre. Our mission strongly aligns with UNICEF’s World Children’s Day theme, ‘Listen to the future and create a better world for every child’. Family Centre’s Founder, the late Martha Dismont, was a strong advocate for World Children’s Day and the Convention that protects the rights of children to be protected and nurtured in Bermuda, and around the world. This World Children’s Day, we encourage all adults to ask the children and teens in their lives about their ideas, priorities, and dreams for the future, because they are powerful agents of change. Their ideas and perspectives can help shape a better future for all of us.”

Family Centre Celebrates World Childrens Day Bermuda Nov 2024

Leila Wadson, Family Centre’s Director of Community Services explains how the work of Family Centre supports this year’s theme. “Family Centre creates safe spaces where youth can share their thoughts, concerns and dreams with caring adults who listen and take action,” she said.

“We are especially proud of our Youth Leadership Academy, which equips young people with the skills they need to thrive and become positive change-makers in our community. Through our Beyond Rugby Bermuda and Beyond Yoga Bermuda programmes, we offer safe spaces for young people to connect, build resilience, and develop their strengths. These programmes are part of our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to the care and support they need to reach their fullest potential.”

Susan Richardson, Family Centre’s Director of Counselling Services added, “Family Centre offers a safe space to receive free access to mental health counselling for families with children ages 4 – 18. We help with emotional, mental and behavioural challenges that our children and teens may be experiencing. We assist with the development of essential life skills that build resilience. Family Centre’s Counselling team is dedicated to improving the emotional and social wellbeing of children and teens so they may have a brighter future. Listening to children is critical to their healing process.”

The spokesperson said, “On Friday, November 22nd everyone is encouraged to wear blue in observation of World Children’s Day and donate to Family Centre in support of the charity’s work to advocate, protect and nurture Bermuda’s children. In addition, on the day, the charity will celebrate Founder’s Day, commemorating Martha Dismont’s birthday and her legacy as a strong advocate for children and families in Bermuda.

    Dol we plant it, or do we buy it , all with borrowed money is that your choice ?

    It is heart breaking for all you and I to see our saving and heard earned tax money go to pay loan interest.

    CARE and CARING or TIME and MONEY.

    It is what we should not do ,cost money.
    It is how we do it, is a high degree of professionalism .
    It is when do we it , that affects our time.
    All forms of procrastination , costs money.
    Strealing time by digressing to private enterprice cost money.

    Work ethic comes in to question from the top down.

    For mistakes and errors in judgment and waste, is always a huge price to be paid in money for loss of time .

    It is often said that money is time . the loss of time ends up with a loss of money.

    It costs twice as much in time and ten times the money if not more ,to correct problems and erors through the lack of common sense .

    Could it be that we think that we are not as good as we think, indecision leave us with no decision.

    Passing the buck is a common place and a favourite practice these days .

    You may ask what are the problems ? Financial; mechanical ; electrical ; theoretical ; or just plain mis ~ judgement and more, all you have to do is read the news.

    Playing the blaming game thick on to others down the line what a waste if time and money.

    Mistakes and short falls drags a country down the slippers slope, which then causes great concern.
