Skyport’s second annual Great Bermuda Carol-Off celebrated its winners with a concert at L.F. Wade International Airport, awarding funding to outstanding school choirs for their music programs.
A spokesperson said, “Skyport’s second annual Great Bermuda Carol-Off came to a stunning conclusion last night with its first ever Winners’ Concert, held at L.F. Wade International Airport.
“Winning schools gave encore performances to hundreds of spectators, made up of VIPs, including the Premier and Ministers for Culture and Transport, along with Skyport staff and passengers.
“In addition to the performances, audience members shopped the vendors market set up in the airport’s Departure Hall, where almost 20 local businesses sold their wares.
“The event wrapped up with a special presentation ceremony that saw the winners of this year’s Great Bermuda Carol-Off crowned and their schools receive funding towards their music programmes. The winners and their prizes are:
- Best Primary School Choir – Northlands Primary [$5,000 prize]
- Runner-up Primary School Choir – West End Primary School [$2,000 prize]
- Best Middle/Secondary School Choir – The Berkeley Institute [$5,000 prize]
- Runner-up Middle/Secondary School Choir – Bermuda Institute [$2,000 prize]
- The People’s Choice Choir – St Davids/East End Primary [$1,200 prize]
Nikki Fagan, Head of Brand Development & Communications at Skyport, said: ‘The Winners’ Concert was a wonderful way to cap a season of musical celebration here at Skyport and we’re delighted so many people came out to support the choirs. We want to say a huge “thank you” and “congratulations” to all 21 school choirs that participated in this year’s Carol-Off – their hard work and commitment paid off enormously and we can’t wait to see what they do next year.’
