Bermuda Bids Farewell To Governor Lalgie
Bermuda will bid farewell to Governor Rena Lalgie on Tuesday, January 14.
A Government spokesperson said, “Bermuda will bid farewell to Her Excellency, the Governor, Rena Lalgie on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
“But prior to her official departure, last evening [Jan. 7], the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP, hosted a special farewell dinner at Camden for Her Excellency.
“And earlier today [Jan. 8], the traditional weekly meeting between Governor Lalgie and Premier Burt, took place for the final time at Government House [Los Zorros, Paget].”
In reflecting on Governor Lalgie’s service and extending his appreciation, Premier Burt said, “The Bermuda welcome afforded this Governor was one featuring a mask mandate and social distancing such that the witnesses to her swearing-in were stood in the four corners of the drawing room at Government House.
“Thankfully, things did change and on abandoning our masks and returning to social gatherings, we met a woman with a determination to serve and ensure her best service every day of this tenure. I have always found in Governor Lalgie a genuine willingness to understand the Bermuda position and where possible, she has advocated for us in London and beyond. On behalf of the Government and People of Bermuda, we extend our sincere thanks for her service as we prepare to wish her a fond farewell.”
