Video: PLP Announce Candidate Iesha Musson
[Updated] The Progressive Labour Party is holding a press conference this afternoon [Jan 15] to announce a candidate for the 2025 General Election. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
Update: Iesha Musson will be the PLP’s candidate for Constituency 20 Pembroke South West. The OBA or UBP have won the Constituency 20 Pembroke South West in all the general elections since the one seat system started in 2003, always earning at least 78% of the vote. The OBA’s Susan Jackson is the incumbent.
Update 6.37pm: Speaking at today’s press conference, Iesha Musson said, “Good afternoon to the Hon Premier, E. David Burt and thank you. Good afternoon members of the PLP executive, constituency 20 members, family and friends.
“I am grateful to stand before you as a wife and proud mother of 5!
“I was born and raised in Bermuda between my great-grandmother’s house on Mount Hill and at my Granny’s house in Middle Town.
“I am a regular Bermudian like many of you, not from PLP Legacy or groomed as a generational party member.
“I am a woman who wants to see change and progress in our community and a mother who will work to make it happen. I am blessed to stand before you today.
“If it were not for the good services and organizations that help so many of us, my story could have been much different.
“I was once considered an at-risk youth, but programs like Mirrors, which the Progressive Labour Party created…helped me to define a better, more successful path.
“With a core value of community service embedded in that program, I fell in love with service and saw the benefits of helping people, being a proud product of those good works standing before you today.
“My passions are youth development and family preservation, and I am active in the community, advocating and supporting them daily.
“I have joined and supported many organizations and organized and community givebacks to benefit those in need…while connecting them to the resources they require.
“Much of the work that the PLP has done has been focused on holding off the worst of what the world is going through.
“And we know more remains to be done. But just imagine if we had a government with less of a social conscience?
“Would they have taken any action for people like you and me?
“Imagine us without the payroll tax reductions benefiting 86% of the population.
“Imagine us without 70 more affordable homes built for people like you and me.
“Imagine us without duty reductions in staple food items
“Imagine us without the relief given to workers that were displaced by Covid
“Things would be a whole lot worse.
“Working with a PLP team that understands that times are hard and is working constantly to make things better for all…is why I am grateful to serve as a PLP candidate.
“I would be humbled and honoured to serve the people of Constituency 20 – Pembroke Southwest because I care,
“I am strong-minded,
“and I am willing to work to ensure their voices are heard and the work gets done.
“I would like to take a moment to thank my parents, who showed me time and time again the true definition of resilience;
“I’d like to thank my support network, who stand proud to support me daily, especially Michelle Musson; and my loving husband Najee Musson, who understands my passion for community and supports me in my endeavors.
“To my children, who inspire and empower me to continue to make a difference, I love you and do this to ensure a better and fairer Bermuda for you.
“Last but certainly not least, to the constituents of C20, I am here and ready to work on your behalf! I look forward to meeting you and representing you. Thank you.”

Paula Cox lost her seat in 2012, is Burt taking the threat to his seat seriously? Seems there is a lot of disquiet in the PLP about his so called leadership.
Nah. You got brainwashed or you’re not too sharp. Or even worse, like the other UBP members in the PLP, you just want a guaranteed job and pension that you can’t get elsewhere. When will Bermuda wake up?
Ignore Mark above and his kindergarten response. He would never run because he does not know what comes after the letter p in the alphabet.
I keep hearing this mantra from the PLP, but it is BS beacuse:
The Quango that does the housing, would still be doing the housing under any government. So that is moot.
The payroll tax has increased under the PLP Reign, there may have been some very small reductions tweaking, but overall since the PLP took power payroll tax has almost doubled and for everyone it has increased.
The duty reductions in staple food items has an insignificant impact on the food bill, most of the items were already very low import duty. the PLP indtroduced a sugar tax which PUNISHED Bermudians and the cost of that outweighed manyfold the tiny import duty reductions given by the PLP.
The relief given to workers that were displaced by Covid, was a DIRECT RESULT OF PLP SHUTDOWNS and decisions that dragged out and restricted revenue coming into Bermuda from Visitors. What is amazing is that when the deaths ramped up the PLP didn’t shut down or place any restrictions. Also any displacement caused by the government whoever they were would have resulted in compensation, because it is the right thing to do on the one hand and if the govt didn’t there would be many many lawsuits.
Now that has been given context , what else do you claim the PLP have done ?
….am not being disrespectful, kudos for you for standing up, but please don’t become a pawn of others with their manipulating false narratives as were quoted in your article. Know the real truth, find your own strength and stand up for Bermuda, not the PLP party, in your political career.
