Video: OBA Announce Election Candidates
[Updated] The One Bermuda Alliance [OBA] is holding a press conference this afternoon [Jan 21] where they are expected to announce candidates for the upcoming 2025 General Election. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
Update | The OBA announced these candidates
• James ‘Smokey’ Perry C1 St George’s North
• Clifton Lambert C4 St George’s South
• David Rogers C14 Devonshire North West
• Tarik Smith C24 Warwick South East
• Montell Currin C26 Warwick South Central
• Victoria Cunningham C28 Warwick West
• Deon Smith C29 Southampton East
• Kellan Lewis C32 Southampton West
• Rodrae Durrant C35 Sandys North Central
Out of the nine candidates listed above two, Tarik Smith and Victoria Cunningham, are currently listed on the OBA website. Mr Perry [C1] is a change from the candidate listed on the OBA website which is Tia Smith, while Mr Lambert [C4] also marks a change from the OBA website where Elizabeth Deacon is listed as the candidate.
Susan Jackson, who is also currently listed on their website, is retiring so taking that into account, and assuming the other listed candidates are running, it appears that the OBA has three additional candidates to unveil to make a full 36. One of those seats would be C20 [currently held by Susan Jackson] which is a seat the OBA wins with a high percentage of the vote each election, so political watchers will be quite interested in who the party will announce for that seat.
The announced candidates — with the exception of Kellan Lewis who was not present – are pictured below
Update 7.51pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “The OBA’s latest candidate rollout was yet another display of a party that is fundamentally out of touch, unprepared, and incapable of leading Bermuda forward.
“He rolled out several candidates but didn’t give us bios, plans or any information about these candidates. It underserved them. A party that doesn’t value its candidates is a party that doesn’t serve its people.
“What Bermudians saw today was not a bold vision for the future, but a continuation of the OBA’s inability to answer basic questions or offer meaningful solutions to the challenges our people face.
“Former OBA Chair, Senator and candidate Justin Mathias got it right when he called this an “unorganised trainwreck of an organisation.”
“No Transparency on Backroom Deals | When asked directly, the OBA Leader refused to be open and transparent about possible pre-election backroom deals with the FDM and Sir John Swan’s so-called “independents.”
“When pressed on whether they would collaborate with independents and other parties, Jarion Richardson said that they “don’t want to share” their specific plans for collaboration?! So, what is their secret plan?! This is dishonest, and clearly, there are plans afoot to try to fool the Bermudian public.
“Bermudians deserve to know: Are these so-called “independent” candidates secretly working with the OBA behind closed doors?
“Why won’t the OBA be honest about their intentions?
“It’s a clear indication that they are more focused on political trickery than serving the people. Genuine leadership starts with consistent, meaningful engagement, not photo ops during election season.
“When pressed to name five things his government would do in the first 100 days if they won the election, the OBA Leader waffled and failed to provide any specifics. This is deeply concerning.
“Bermudians want solutions to rising costs, better opportunities for their families, and a brighter future for their children. If the OBA cannot articulate a plan, how can they claim to be ready to govern?
“Let us not forget the words of former OBA Chair Justin Mathias, who described the OBA as “fundamentally flawed” and stated they “…don’t have individuals who have the calibre to form a government.” This stinging condemnation comes from someone who knows the OBA better than most, and today’s rollout only reinforces this lack of confidence.
“While the OBA stumbles through candidate rollouts, empty rhetoric, and secrecy, the PLP remains focused on delivering for Bermudians. We have a proven track record of fighting to keep costs down for families, increasing seniors’ pensions, and investing in education and infrastructure. Our vision for Bermuda is clear, and our commitment to progress is unwavering.
“Bermudians deserve leaders who are transparent, connected, and ready to govern with a clear plan for the future. The OBA has once again shown they are not up to the task. The PLP will continue to fight for a fairer Bermuda for all of us.”

“OBA Announce Candidates” More like OBA/ubp Announce More Sacrificial Lambs.
There you have it voters a white established party continuing the old play book of using black men as surrogates for a white political party. They can’t even deny the truth when the people see this photo op.
And what is Bermuda’s racial makeup? You lot sound stupid regurgitating this talking point…it’s dead and dusted
The politics of hate and racial division is thriving in Bermuda.
The two candidates interrupting their leader to speak on his behalf shows their lack of confidence in his ability to effectively commumicate the partys stance. Quite embarrassing.
Wow. The PLP don’t usually put that many full sentences together. They must be really worried!
This was a complete mess.
Start at 9:55 and observe how Jarion bowed when, Victoria Cunningham C28 Warwick West, came over and interrupted him. What a joke.
This what he should’ve stated to the press!
“Hello media the candidates listed on the website have been canvasing. The new candidates I rolled out today haven’t been canvasing, but will start tomorrow”
See how easy it is to tell the truth OBAUBP Leader, but instead you told a lie.
Congrats Joe Bloggs. All your friends are running. Only one will win. The rest are unknown and you forgot to tie their lacessssssssss..
On another note the PLP should remain quiet. Not statesmen enough. They respond like it is a game of marbles or Jack’s. They don’t sound mature at all. OK Joe …waiting to see you in the line up. Not the Ms Bermuda Cintest or taxi cab line up but the election nomination line up. And once nominated remember you can’t go home and eat popcorn. You have to show up on election day.
The OBA speaks to diversity yet they have 1 black female running. Black females are arguably the most educated demographic yet they cannot persuade more than 1 to run for them?
The PLP perpetuates racism. They have 1 yt male, who seems to own the rest of them. LMFAO
The OBA just revealed their 7 Top Jokes.
