Video: FDM Announce C18 Candidate Omar Dill
[Updated] The Free Democratic Movement [FDM] is holding a press conference this morning [Jan 29]. We will have additional coverage later on and in the meantime the live video is below.
Update: They announced that Omar Dill will be running in C18 Pembroke West Central, this is the seat currently held by the Premier.
Update: Mr Dill — who serves as chairman of the FDM — was introduced today by Neletha Butterfield, who was the PLP MP for the area until 2012, when she was defeated in an internal party primary by David Burt, who now serves as the Premier. Premier Burt will be standing for re-election, and the OBA’s Nicky Gurret will also be contesting the seat.
Update 6.40pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “Our Party Leader, Premier Burt, remains focused on creating a fairer Bermuda for all. It matters not so much who else is running but more about what this Government has done for the residents of C18, and how the Party Leader has represented and connected with the people of Pembroke West Central for the past 13 years.
“The FDM can dive into the gutter and hurl personal attacks, but the PLP knows what the FDM feel in their hearts – that if people took a look at the FDM’s policies and their burning desire to unite with the OBA, voters would reject them soundly.
“The constituents of C18 will not be swayed by personal attacks, conspiracy theories, or wacky ideas with a desire to prop up the OBA. Sadly, that is all the FDM are offering.
“The voters of C18 appreciate increased pensions, expanded child care, lower taxes for workers and small business owners, and the support we have implemented for first-time homeowners. While voters in C18 understand that the PLP is not perfect, they know that the PLP has been a consistent presence in and around the community for the last 4 years, and not just at election time.
“The FDM has not.
“C18 and Bermuda have a choice – embrace an entity that doesn’t care enough to work for you between elections, supports radical immigration policies to open the immigration floodgates, and wants to scrap rent control OR a PLP that will oppose those extreme policies and fight for a fairer Bermuda for all of us…and not just at election time.”

I’ve got to commend and give credit where its due to Mr. Dill for responding candidly about receiving a mixed response while out canvassing and experiencing that some people are entrenched in their way of thinking. That’s frank honesty that our current government sorely lacks and we’d all benefit from hearing more of.
He’s also right on the money about the systematic issues our MPs leverage to enrich… Mr. Dill said himself, that is exploitation. Plain and simple.
Another FDM member doing mudslinging and hate. The leader has the same ego attitude that will get the party know where.
Hmmm….Me thinks he would do better as an independent.
Nice to hear someone speak without the usual “you know” “um um” “uh uh” and so on.
A sad pattern:
Rolf can’t have his way he viciously attacks the PLP who appointed him to the Senate but due to huge public discord about his past behaviour with someone dismissed him.So he comes blazing out of hell with a verbal machine gun like he had a perfect record. REALLY?
. VANCE FAILS TO GET Walter Rhoban’s seat and says the PLP are good at running elections but not governing the country. Had he been given the seat he would still be in the PLP. Nobody has picked up on that fox in sheep’s clothing
. Marc Bean, former P L P leader resigns and you can hear and feel his childish anger miles away. Really?
. Rene Webb was all quiet when the Govt agreed to her move in 1998 re Coco Reef and her appointment to Brussells. She calls scrambles in a marbles game…..not a friend of the PlP ANYMORE when tge goodies dissppeared. Really?
. All ABOVE were well respected hard working PLP loyalist when tge bucket was full. Neletha Butterfield lost her place to the Premier when the Branch picked him. Now against the party that gave her so much with her school but tels us it disappeared so what does she do. Join the group above who were happy when there was milk and water but when they fall on their own petard turn hard and cold against those who put food on their plate. It is plain for all to see and very discouraging. So much potential now smoking tires because the goodies have been removed. But we will hear how genuine they served the people.Really?
This whole press conference reeked of bitterness and vengefulness. Sad.
