[Updated] The Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] is holding its Apprenticeship Programme Induction Ceremony this morning [Jan 14], and you can tune in and watch live below.
The apprentices that were officially welcomed to BELCO’s 2025 cohort include Etreu Addonai, Andre Landy, Jomeko Mallory, Enzi Pitt-Adams, Jalani Richardson, Mikhail Saltus, Josiah Smith, Jai-Zel Smith DeShields, Marcus Wade, and Cornell Young.
Update 1.00pm: A spokesperson said, “Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited [BELCO] today announced the 10 successful inductees for the 2025 Apprenticeship Programme.
“The BELCO Apprenticeship Programme has been re-designed to give worthy applicants an opportunity and the best chance of success in securing a rewarding and challenging career at BELCO.
“The four-year programme offers successful applicants the opportunity to earn while they learn while training towards a rewarding career blending technical training and academic study. Work-based learning helps apprentices kick start their careers in Bermuda’s evolving energy industry.
“Upon completion of the programme, successful candidates shall be assessed for progression to graded positions and placed in designated areas of the business for the foreseeable future. Apprentices fill various roles within the company including Electrical Fitters, Mechanical Fitters, Line Workers, and Electrical Jointers.
“The programme has evolved over the last 30 years and many of the company’s skilled workforce are past apprentices that graduated from the programme and are now employed full-time at the company.
“Hosted by BELCO President Wayne Caines, also in attendance to welcome the apprentices were Shelly Leman, Managing Director of Transmission, Distribution, and Retail, Nadir Wade, Managing Director of Bulk Generation, and LaKeitha Cunningham, Director, Human Resources and Culture.
“Honourary guests attending the ceremony included Malika Cartwright, Director, Department of Workforce Development, Dr. Patricia Chapman, Training Manager, Department of Workforce Development and Jason Butterfield, Training Officer, Department of Workforce Development.
“The apprentices that were officially welcomed to BELCO’s 2025 cohort include Etreu Addonai, Andre Landy, Jomeko Mallory, Enzi Pitt-Adams, Jalani Richardson, Mikhail Saltus, Josiah Smith, Jai-Zel Smith DeShields, Marcus Wade, and Cornell Young.”
