OBA & FDM Condemn Social Media Video
The OBA and FDM have condemned the extremely distasteful video that was posted online, with the OBA saying “such abhorrent, slanderous accusations have no place in Bermuda” while the FDM said they “firmly condemn the use of social media to spread false statements that cause unnecessary harm.”
The PLP previously said they are ”aware of the malicious and false video being circulated anonymously on social media, clearly aimed at tarnishing the reputations of PLP Cabinet ministers, and misleading the public. These attempts to divide our community through dishonesty and baseless personal attacks are despicable, unacceptable, and go far beyond the realm of acceptable public discourse.”
In a separate statement, the Police Commissioner said, “Sharing unsubstantiated claims or defamatory content can have serious consequences not only for the individuals targeted, but also legally, for those responsible. I urge the community to think carefully before engaging with or, spreading such content.”
OBA Deputy Leader Ben Smith statement:
Mr Smith said, “The One Bermuda Alliance strongly condemns the video that was recently posted online which distastefully exploits the unfortunate death of Marco Warren.
“The OBA wants to assure the public that it had no part whatsoever in the creation of that video nor condones the way the incident was used to disparage anyone.
“Such abhorrent, slanderous accusations have no place in Bermuda, and we urge whoever is behind this video to delete it and refrain from posting any further similar content. Videos such as this only serve to divide our community.
“This video may constitute a crime of defamation under Bermuda’s Criminal Code and if anyone knows who is responsible, we urge them to contact the Bermuda Police Service so that the individual or individuals responsible can be brought to justice.”
Free Democratic Movement statement:
In a statement on social media, the FDM — who also addressed harmful social media posts at the start of their press conference today – said, “The Free Democratic Movement firmly condemns the use of social media to spread false statements that cause unnecessary harm.
“These actions are deeply troubling, as they often reopen wounds for families already enduring unimaginable pain. The real victims are not just those targeted but the loved ones left to bear the emotional toll. We must strive to uphold a sense of integrity and compassion, recognizing the lasting impact such behavior has on families and communities.”
