PLP’s Jache Adams On ‘NewBP’ Movement
The “announcement of Sir John Swan’s support for ‘independent’ candidate, Suzie Arruda, is a revealing development” and “this move appears to be less about offering genuine independence and more about reviving a tired political playbook,” Jache Adams said, with the PLP MP calling it a ‘NewBP’ movement.
Mr Adams said that the “announcement of Sir John Swan’s support for ‘independent’ candidate, Suzie Arruda, is a revealing development in this election. While framed as an independent voice, Ms. Arruda’s allegiance with Sir John—a former UBP Leader and longstanding champion for its rebranded successor the OBA raises important questions.
“This move appears to be less about offering genuine independence and more about reviving a tired political playbook: divide the electorate, confuse the issues, and ultimately align with the OBA to block progress towards a fairer Bermuda for all Bermudians. This ‘NewBP’ movement is clearly positioning itself to partner with the OBA, to protect the interests of the privileged and not deliver fresh ideas for Bermuda.
“Simply put, Sir John Swan’s ‘independent’ movement is not a new voice for progress but rather an effort to prop up the same old policies that prioritize the wealthy, privileged few over the rest of us.
“In Pembroke West, my focus remains on delivering real solutions: affordable housing, expanded healthcare access, and opportunities for young Bermudians to thrive. The PLP’s record is one of commitment to building a fairer Bermuda for everyone—not just for those at the top.
“This election is a clear choice. The PLP has a proven track record of fighting for Bermudians, and making steady progress to a fairer Bermuda for all of us. While this so-called “independent” movement will only push us backwards to an OBA with no clue how to address the cost of living and an agenda of opening the immigration floodgates, slashing a woman’s access to mammograms and gutting social programmes.
“I urge Bermudians in Constituency 19 to stay focused on the issues that matter most and reject attempts to undermine the progress we have made together towards a fairer Bermuda for all of us.”
Constituency #19 Pembroke West is currently held by Mr Adams. Since the one seat system started in 2003, the OBA or UBP won the Pembroke West seat in all 4 General Elections, however that changed in 2020, when the PLP’s Jache Adams won this seat with 51.54% of the vote.
Ms Arruda announced earlier this week that she will be running in the C19 constituency, and the candidate currently listed on the OBA website for the constituency is Marcus Jones.

“Jache Adams said, with the PLP MP calling it a ‘NewBP’ movement.”
If there is a “NewBP” would it not be the party with 2 former UBP leaders (Wayne Furbert and Kim Swan) as sitting MPs?
No one believes a word any of the lying PLP say so don’t bother next time. You are bad for our country.
One thing is obvious and has been for a very long time . The PLP HATES competition and will sink to the lowest of depths to denigrate any newcomers . It was easy for them to keep the hate focused when it was just the UBP and OBA but they must be going nuts trying to figure out how they’re going to run an effective smear campaign against a 3 pronged threat !
Who is Jache Adams? ????♀️
Jache you are only a clone of your leader , Where are our future leaders one would only hope that some of the younger plp would have a mind of their own and actually want to make Bermuda a fairer place to live . Burt is on retaining power at all costs because his and FF are doing very well financially. This government created most of the issues they want to blame on the OBA. Stupid question where is the 22 million $ the US gave to fix Longbird bridge and clean up Morgans point
go ahead vote for them 22 years of governance and $3+ billion in debt
The problem with someone like Jache is that he is too young to know how well the Bermuda economy ran under the UBP. Jobs were plentiful and if you needed more money second jobs paid well.
He is a junior minister under Burt. He wouldn’t get an interview with a large local company, let alone an exempt company as a CFO so he is way out of his depth. Poor Bermuda.
As to his “we are committed”. that is all the PLP can say. Committed, but never actually do anything, except committed to be in power.
A fairer Bermuda is a sad joke after 20 odd years of PLP power.
“He wouldn’t get an interview with a large local company”
He was a “Relationship Manager” at Butterfield Bank before moving to the more lucrative field of polytricks
I forgot to add that under the UBP housing was affordable. For example, people helped each other to build homes.
Under the PLP there has been so much land and houses sold to non Bermudians, coupled with the unrestrained influx of IB money increasing rents. The PLP are a large cause of the unaffordability of housing. Then look at the Bermudiana Beach disaster. Paid for by Bermuda taxpayers and rented to expats. Yes, the PLP should be committed, to Westgate.
More than a decade has passed since the UBP ceased to exist, and more than a generation has passed since the UBP were in power. Babies like Jache Adams will not have any meaningful recollection of the UBP.
I too remember the heydays of Bermuda, but they are over. Our “twin pillars” of tourism and IB are pretty much gone. What “tourism” we have these days is mostly “business tourism”.
We (our Government) drove away 5,000 high-paying IB jobs in 2007/2008, just before the financial crisis of 2008. We have replaced those workers with low-paid service staff.
I do not agree that there is an “unrestrained influx of IB money increasing rents”. I know families with large houses in Bermuda that used to rent for $15,000 to $20,000 per month prior to 2009. Those houses are now only getting $8,000 to $12,000 per month, and that is more than 15 years after our financial ruin.
Of course, at the lower end of the market, groups of foreigners will live in a home meant for a single family and share the rent between them, thus removing that single family home from the rental market.
Do not get me started on the $100 MILLION PLUS disaster that our Government has made of the White Elephant/Bermudiana Beach/Grand Atlantic. No government should engage in property or business development. Civil servants typically to not have that skill set. The sheer incompetence demonstrated by our Government in its attempt to make something of the White Elephant/Bermudiana Beach/Grand Atlantic is staggering. $100 MILLION PLUS worth of staggering.
Anyone with an electronic device can turn on the media and can see that countries worldwide are feeling the economic pinch. You also forgot to mention the $165 mill Caroline Bay Hotel complex in Morgan’s Point, which the OBA guarantied. What a failure!
Please do not use my name to try to spread misinformation.
Mr. Ringmaster
What you have noted as above in you first paragraph is more than an opinion , your statement is an absolute fact , it is not nessesary for me to say any more, other than to invite you to read the Bermuda Housing Corporation act
Has Spanish Point Rd been paved yet? This guy promised to do it 4 years go
This is laughable, for the second time in a row the PLP has called for a snap election. A maneuver that Sir John Swan is very familiar with as the UBP employed that move over and over again. Ironically PLP are pointing a finger at the one opponent that knew the deal and countered it with ease. Now as the PLP struggles with internal party drama as always they seek to divide those who oppose them. Yes there is a NewBP and Mr. Adams is just starring in the mirror of his own political affiliations. PLP IS THE NEWBP!!!
Jache Adams feels threatened, so has to try to manipulate people into thinking negatively about someone competing for a seat using a non-applicable catchphrase. He is acting like a child.
