OBA Statement On PLP’s Platform Release
[Updated] “For the third consecutive election, the PLP has chosen to release its platform late in the evening—an apparent attempt to avoid scrutiny and limit public discussion before media deadlines,” the OBA said this evening [Feb 6].
“We know the PLP playbook,” said OBA candidate Robert King for constituency 10, Smith’s North. “But after seven years of failed leadership and broken promises, the real question is simple: Why should Bermudians believe anything in this latest platform?”
A spokesperson added, “Over the last two elections, the PLP has pledged fish processing plants, vertical farms, casinos, balanced budgets, education reform, a dispute resolution centre, crypto jobs, universal healthcare, and action on gangs and violence—none of which have materialized.”
“Tonight’s platform launch was nothing more than another list of empty promises,” said King. “They’ve had seven years to solve Bermuda’s problems, yet many have only worsened. Every voter should ask themselves: Am I better off now than I was seven years ago? If the answer is no, David Burt has got to go.”
OBA Deputy Leader Ben Smith added, “David Burt has a history of making promises he never intends to keep, just to win votes. As a result, nearly three-quarters of Bermudians are considering leaving for better opportunities elsewhere. It’s time for real change.”
A spokesperson added, “After four years of rebuilding, the OBA has the leadership, the team, and the platform to turn Bermuda around.”
“Today marks a turning point in this campaign,” said OBA leader Jarion Richardson. “We’re not going to dwell on the government’s failures or another list of promises that they intend to break—Bermudians already know how bad things have gotten. Instead, we are focused on a positive vision for the future. We have the people, the plan, and the commitment to make Bermuda the best place in the world to live, work, learn, play, and raise a family. And if given the opportunity, we will wake up every day with that mission in mind.”
Update: A PLP spokesperson said, “The One Bermuda Alliance’s negative response is unsurprising. The PLP has brought forward a comprehensive 40 page document with detailed policies telling you exactly what we will deliver for Bermudians if successful on February 18th. The OBA gave you an 8 page pamphlet with vague promises.
“The reality is that Michael Fahy and the OBA offer Bermudians Pathways to Status and little else.
“The PLP is comfortable with sharing our plans and vision for a fairer Bermuda for all of us.
“The OBA cannot or will not share what they will do in detail as they know Bermudians would reject it.
“This is the difference between the OBA and the PLP – we have the courage of our convictions and will tell you what we’ll do – and they do not.
“In 2012 they didn’t tell us about Pathways to Status.
“They didn’t tell us they would force public servants to take furlough days and pay cuts.
“They didn’t tell us they would cut scholarships and training programmes.
“They didn’t tell us they would try to slash a woman’s access to mammograms.
“They didn’t tell us they would deny seniors pension increases.
“We know now what they didn’t tell us.
“But what are they hiding now?
“The PLP challenges the OBA to be honest, come clean, and share their real agenda and allow our people to decide who is better suited to build a fairer Bermuda for all of us.”

So the OBAubperss admitted that “Pathways to Status policy was on the OBA’s radar, Dr De Couto said: “It’s not been in our platform for the past five years, it’s not in our platform now”
So the OBAUBPERRS have given up this issue? What about all that talk about growing Bermuda? A leopard doesn’t change its spots.
Not sure why you are referring to something the article is not about, have you been brainwashed by the PLP. This article was about the PLP continuing to manipulate the public by the timing of their platform release and failed PLP promises in the context that the PLP promise the earth and deliver nothing.
“After seven years of failed leadership and broken promises, the real question is simple: Why should Bermudians believe anything in this latest platform?”
“Over the last two elections, the PLP has pledged fish processing plants, vertical farms, casinos, balanced budgets, education reform, a dispute resolution centre, crypto jobs, universal healthcare, and action on gangs and violence—none of which have materialized.”
“Tonight’s platform launch was nothing more than another list of empty promises,” said King.
Not sure why you even waste your life away explaining anything on here. The OBA///UBP has brainwashed you into believing that they will win the next 3 election
You had better hope that the OBA, or a combination OBA/Independents, win the next three elections, even the next six. Bermuda is broke thanks to the PLP and cannot AFFORD another PLP Government.
If you vote for the same old same old, you will getthe same old same old. Promises to do better by people who have failed miserably mean nothing. They can’t fix what they don’t know how to fix.
OBA, stop the foolishness for once, get a grip. Get your act together and focus. The Platform outlines good solutions to key issues in which your platform fails to do. It’s time to step up and make the necessary changes to address these shortcomings. Your constituents are counting on you to deliver real results and fulfill your promises. Take this feedback constructively and use it as motivation to improve and better serve the people who have put their trust in you. The opportunity to make a positive impact is within your reach – seize it and show everyone what you are truly capable of.
You kmow PLP are standing stronger now!
Everything said in the article is true. Things in the PLP platform, as evidenced by the PLP history” will not be true.
A high school election constantly playing ping pong demonstrating an old school mickey mouse ping pong tactic that is dated and does nothing to tell us what you will do. You consistently use blanket politics by throwing a cloth over the PLP while you stand naked. We need statesmanship which means issues and solutions. The PLP,as the oldest party, is still stuck in reverse and will now respond to your response to them like it is ping pong using a ball out ,of the sewage pit that will splatter you so you get annoyed and use a basket ball from the outhouse that splatters both of you. Wow. Stupid. Time for both parties to adopt a fresh topic…..it’s the issues and solutions guys that we want to hear. Do that and you will receive a free photof of a Degraff’s beef pie with mayonnaise and ketchup. I can’t send real ones because Bermudians are also stuck and will say corruption and friends and family. I won’t tell you were they were sitting …the balls will.
Ah the classic PLP tactic of build the opposition to a bogeyamn status. The PLP platform is pathetic. I thought there would be something in it for our futures, but no. It is void of any substance and just 40 pages of glitzy fluff.
This list is amateur, if this is what they are going to deliver, you will be poorer by the end of their next term.
Spending money to introduce controls will make prices higher. Also what is essential food? We would be better off if PLP just gave money to each family, but cutting 1% off Payroll tax. Add the cost of the vegetable centre ($15M to build and then the running costs and the real unit cost of food will be through the roof. We are paying through the nose and back again in the backround THIS IS NOT FAIRER.
The affordable housing is a joke, look at the Grand Atlantic/Bermudiana Beach or whatever it is supposed to be called now. Up to $100M spent on that ! Us Bermudians cant afford the rents they floated, this is NOT FAIRER.
The daycare centre won’t be enough, we need residential facilities. The Hospital beds need to be freed up for paitents not seniors who are trapped. How is their proposal FAIRER to people who need the hospital ????
Absentee voting…the PLP are liars ! They could have done it for this election.
Heathcare Expanded Coverage, well thats great, but the cost of it is unaffordable. It is ridiculous. We should be receiving everything for the prices we pay. Government needs to reduce the cost of insurance, reduce the cost service providers like Dr’s etc can charge BECAUSE THE STAUS QUO IS NOT FAIRER, but no mention of that !
More Climate resiliant infrastructure is just a buzzword, that is pure noise to attempt to climate concious people. (Meanwhile Belco smokes and soots the local people there). THAT IS NOT FAIRER, PLP HAVE JUST PAID LIP SERVICE.
Reforming Criminal justice system… is again more noise… this is to appeal to those who campaigned recently. So criminals get a better balance, how is that fair to those who strive to not commit crime? How about changing the police rules, so the real gang leaders and gangs can be destroyed forever. Generations of Bermudians have been lost to gang crime. It needs to stop, but the PLP don’t care, they just pay lip service to this.
(Please not I have no affiliation with any politcal party) i just want to see a better Bermuda, and the run of the PLP has provided a worse Bermuda and the PLP platform will take us all further downhill.)
Don’t know about the ping pong analogly but watching the PLP govern is more like watching a child playing Whack A Mole to me.
A crisis pops up, usually of their own making, they try to smack it down. They miss. Another pops up. They try to smack it down. Too slow again, they miss. On and on it goes. Almost a quarter century of it yet still voters want to watch the game.
The obaUBp trying to remain relevant as it sets it self on fire.
So what do you call the PLP that has 3 former UBP MP’s and Sir John’s Independents Party? I guess anyone who votes against the PLP is the UBP or is anti-Bermudian? That thinking aligns perfectly with the current US president’s ideology
The PLP is forcing the UBP to changed the name again. LMAO
The UBP was dissolved in 2011. Please read some Bermuda history.
You’ve been sleep at the wheel troll. The UBP is the OBA. Don’t take my word for it. The voters will let you know very soon.
Have you looked around and seen who is in the PLP ranks, one even a Minister?
Please name just one OBA member who was a UBP MP. The UBP has long been dead. To keep associating the OBA with the UBP demonstrates a serious case of insecurity.
If you can’t find a real, I stress REAL, issue to criticise the OBA on during their one short term it would be best to remain silent.
“To keep associating the OBA with the UBP demonstrates a serious case of insecurity.”
it also demonstrates that the politics of hate continues to work here in Bermuda.
The REAL issue is that the oba/UBP doesn’t matter. That’s why they had a difficult time finding credible surrogates.
The UBP will dissolved again on 18/2/2025!
Please do not use my name to spread lies.
*Correction
The oba/UBP will dissolved again on Feb 18, 2025!
Does anyone know what time the oba//UBP is selling their junk after the election is over. Looking to buy a cheap laptop.
On cue the PLP has to respond to the OBA’s response! Lucky for the PLP the Independents don’t respond individually. It’s so childish. All the references to “since 2017″ that the PLP, and the OBA, come out with ignores that the PLP have had since 1998 to “make a fairer Bermuda”. What did they do between 1998 and 2012? Oh yes, their elite started the destruction of Bermuda with their financial incompetence and looking after themselves with their slogan of “our time now”. That’s also brought massive debt, failed infrastructure, mass emigration, bad Hospital Wing deal, ridiculous affordable housing for expats at Bermudiana Beach, and that’s just a small part.
Glossy brochures, TV ads, and platforms hasn’t built a fairer Bermuda since 1998. The PLP has failed up until today. The words “Building and “work to be done” says it all. The PLP have built Bermuda to the ground in 2 decades. TIME IS UP we need to STOP. New people need to take over now, and bring us back, bring Bermudians back.
I wish the OBA wasn’t so polite.
February 18 # 9pm.
The PLP has been in power for a total of 21 of the last 25 years. There has been more than enough time to build a ‘fairer’ Bermuda. There has been more than enough time to address social inequalities, education, the economy, the infrastructure and immigration. The PLP rely on undereducating its populate and generating racial divisiveness in order to stay in power which is fine, but to what end? Do you and your family feel better off today than you did 25 years ago? I think not.
