Video: BYC With Hayward & Richardson
Bermuda Youth Connect [BYC] and Bernews are hosting a discussion with Minister Jason Hayward and Opposition Leader Jarion Richardson this afternoon [Feb 9] regarding population, demographics and immigration. It is the first of two topic-based panel discussions that all the island’s political parties and the movement for independent candidates have been invited to take part in. It is not a debate, but a discussion on the important topic of our ageing population, declining birth rate and immigration.

End Bermuda self governance…UK come clean up your territory.
We can fix this ourselves. Besides that, have you been checking in on how the well the UK is doing right now? I wouldn’t trust Labour to do literally anything. They’ve been institutionalized by the EU virtue signaling themselves into the abyss. Take a look at the situation with the Chagos islands. Absolute mess. We need to drop the identity politics and the folks pushing them. We’ll be able to steer out of this tailspin if we embrace all of our Bermudian countrymen instead of excluding them in aid of DEI etc.
Hayward says giving Long Term Residents Status wouldn’t solve anything. Wow! really. These LTR are valuable contributors in our society for most of their lives, they have children born and raised here that have integrated into our society.
Foreigners have been coming to Bermuda and marrying Bermudian and receiving status in a short time for decades, and like the LTR their children are prominent citizens in our society.
Very true regarding marriage for status vs LTR. At one time this same government acknowledged that they knew Bermudians were getting “married” for money so that “spouses” could secure work without the hassle of immigration work permit fees and eventually after 10 years bermuda status. If it was true, we never learnt of anyone being charged or anyone losing their rights to status, or having it revoked as a result of being caught. So, Mr. Hayward, was it happenening, or more diversion tactics? Is it still happening? At one time Mr. Haywards party was considering passports for money like many other countries have done! Why was this okay? Why are you so threatened by long term residents?
