Kempe Qualifies For Junior Pan Am Games
Bermudian sailor Sebastian Kempe secured a coveted spot for Bermuda at the junior Pan Am Games in Paraguay later this year. Kempe’s qualification comes after he was crowned the ILCA MidWinters East regatta ILCA7 fleet champion.
With the final day’s only race abandoned, Kempe’s impressive performance over the previous eight races, accumulating just 12 net points, was enough to secure him the top spot.
Kempe said, “This event is a good start for me to get back into the swing of this cycle. I’ve had lots of time this winter on the water and in the gym so it’s good to be back on the racecourse.
“It was a very tricky week and very difficult to stay consistent but I had confidence in my pace and in my ability to read the course so everything ended up ok in the end.
“I am looking forward to spring. I will have a big challenge in two world cups and the world championships all within the span of two months. I’m excited for this challenge and opportunity to continue to set the tone to this new cycle.”
Fellow Bermudian sailors also competed at the regatta. Olympian Adriana Penruddocke finished 26th in the ILCA 6 radial division with 96 net points, while Nicole Stovell placed 76th with 166 net points in the same division.
