OBA Leader: ‘Commitment To Bermuda Remains’

February 19, 2025 | 13 Comments

“While we may not have secured victory this time, our commitment to Bermuda remains as strong as ever,”  OBA Leader Jarion Richardson said.

Speaking last night, Mr Richardson said, “Good evening, Bermuda. The results of this election are in, and while not the result we hoped for, the people have spoken. Democracy is about choice, and tonight, Bermudians have made theirs.

“Though this outcome is disappointing for us, we respect the process and the will of the voters. Elections are not just about winning or losing—they are about the people, their concerns, and their hopes for the future. While we may not have secured victory this time, our commitment to Bermuda remains as strong as ever.

“First and foremost, I want to extend my sincere congratulations to David Burt, the Progressive Labour Party and their candidates on their victory. I wish them all the best in the work ahead. But I can promise that my team and I will be watching closely to ensure the PLP fulfill their promises to the people of Bermuda.

“I would like to take this moment to thank each and every one of our incredible candidates across the island. You put in tireless hours, passionate effort, and unwavering dedication to our cause.

“I am incredibly proud to have worked alongside such committed individuals, and I know that the spirit of service you’ve demonstrated will not go unnoticed. Your hard work has made a difference in Bermuda, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

“For those of you who won your seats, we will be a strong and dedicated opposition. And to those of you who didn’t, you can expect me to call on you as we continue our journey to build a bigger and better OBA and a stronger Bermuda.

“To our supporters and volunteers, thank you. Thank you for believing in our vision, for your hard work, your time, and your commitment to change. Your support has been the backbone of this campaign. We may not have won today, but your voices were heard, and we will continue to be a strong force in Bermuda’s political landscape.

“I also want to express my gratitude to every Bermudian who took the time to vote. Whether you voted for us, another party or an independent candidate, your participation is vital to the health of our democracy. You’ve shown that you care about the future of our island, and I commend you for that.

“To my family—there are no words to truly express my gratitude. Your love, patience, and unwavering support have been my anchor throughout this journey. The sacrifices you have made, the late nights, the missed moments, and the steadfast encouragement have given me the strength to keep pushing forward.

“Public service is never a solo effort—it demands the support of those closest to us. You have lifted me up when the road was tough, reminded me why I chose this path, and given me the courage to stand here tonight. You are my foundation, my greatest source of strength, and I am forever grateful.

“As we move forward, the One Bermuda Alliance will remain a strong and vocal opposition. We will hold this government to account, ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and that decisions are made in the best interests of all Bermudians.

“We will continue to push for policies that improve the lives of everyday people, create opportunities for young Bermudians, and build a better future for generations to come.

“While we may have lost this battle, we are not defeated. We will be back in four years, stronger, more united, and even more determined. Our vision for Bermuda’s future remains clear, and we will continue to fight for what we know is best for our people.

“Thank you once again to everyone who supported us, and thank you to Bermuda.”

Thank you for being committed to Bermuda’s REMAINS. RIP.

    • Unelectable. They all talk the talk. says:

Ask him where the Somers lodge project is. Not a word. Surely he can get that done. Please go and watch a movie. I suggest “The Emperor has no clothes.”

Quick impulsive thinking get us know where .

there are always consequence for every action.

It is not nice to go round humiliating people .

if you are not part of the team moving forward , you contribute nothing .

      Got any bright ideas ?

You could not do any better at least the man does not shove his theory down our throats.

A person vote is a closely guarded secret.

Some do not know who the will vote for before the take the cap off the pen .

The fear in voting for one thing and not getting what you hope for .

Getting and keeping 40,000 people happy is not easy .

They did not loose no body looses, that is being negative and is not the slitghtest bit encouraging our new government of 36 people has to work together or they and we will all face failure .

      Tomorrow is not promised. !

  2. Triangle Drifter says:

You got the expected result, though going from 6 to 11 seats is a plus.

You had a very steep uphill battle with the PLP playing their usual bag of dirty tricks campaign dishing out trinkets to the gullible voters almost everyday prior to, and during, the election period. The trinkets peaked with the higher than inflation pay raises given to everyone getting a Government paycheck on Friday capping off all of the ‘good news’ press conferences.

How do you fight such unethical behaviour? If the OBA was in a position to do it there would have been protests in the street with PLP leading from behind the crowd. Since it is PLP doing it, all is OK.

Nothing better is expected of the PLP.

  3. hmmm says:

Please chase up on the PATTI reports requested from the Parks Commission and the JSC on the Cyber attack..

  4. Hmmm says:

Please remain so the oba keeps losing.

  5. Mr. Apathy says:

The OBA really ought to just dissolve completely at this point, which is a shame considering they have some good candidates and a much better track record and grasp on fiscal management of the public purse.

However, the green propaganda machine has successfully demonised the entity to the extent that it’s unlikely they could ever successfully shake off the smear campaign tactics amongst the diehards.

Time to go back to the drawing board.

  6. PAC MAN says:

Delaying the Bermuda election process over a period of every five years, deneighs the Bermuda public a voice and on going dissatisfaction and discontentment of failing performance of our economy and and lack of trust and forward thinking of a group of ordinary people just like you and I being faced with extra ordinary chalenging situations .

Resulting in as we see again in 2025 not the dark ages ,the lack of voter particapation, it is noted that they do not even come out and march to express their opinions, why we may ask?
many decline at home lost faith and promote apathy of a silent voice , is that how demorcracy works ?

When a country experiances a large group people automatically disenfranchising them selves from their electoral process should cause great concern. ley me remind you our over seas students did not get a fair oportunity. realizing that the could be complications whic could be resolved in tha sam mare offered to our seniors .

Non the less, having three groups of candidates to choose from leaving no alernative to ask the question WHY !

On the other hand there were potential voters who just threw the towel in , so I repeat my self in apathy from the silent majority you can bet the committee will do the head count after the fact , what is none is done !

Those peoples made their consience choice to further delay the repediative process by five years.

We have seen see some party member take a walk or received the poverbial boot by exclusion from nomination process.

We endorse ( We don’t appear to elect any more ) a person to the position of a member of parliament.

Is our electoral system considered far from being functional suffering from the lack of participation in our own affairs .

The recent call in 2025 for “CHANGE”conveniently omitting their ideals or details > from “what to whatever” .<

Have we found many not willing or not interested to stand up and be counted.

We have never seen the word "HOPE" used so much recently . May i ask HOPE for what ?

For those who may be looking for additional answers on the 2025 election disappoing turn out it appears the canidates relied on the serviced of the media.

Bernews and BBC are to be commended for the magnificent way they catered to the election . Brilliant !

Other may have been hoping for home visits, that this time being some way impractical for this time of year and un favourable weather

    • Joe Bloggs says:

“it is noted that they do not even come out and march to express their opinions, why we may ask?”

I have been threatened for merely asking questions. I am not going to publicly march and protest against those who have previously threatened me.

      • PAC MAN says:

Bloggs.” March” may not have been an ideal word. Gathering could be more suitable.
We are not entitled to know why a person does not choose to put pen to paper for what ever reason as it is their prerogative.

My best solution is that i beleive that the people need to work together as we have a hard road to travel .

Every thought have , is real.
Every idea i present is with hope of success .
Every bit advice i give , has merit .
Every question I have ,has merit .
Every word of encouragement I give ,has merit.
