New Book On Brian Duperreault Launched
A biography of Brian Duperreault, ‘Faith & Purpose’, was launched at a Bermuda reception, where proceeds from pre-sales were donated to support local insurance studies.
A spokesperson said, “A 357-page biography chronicling the life and career of insurance industry legend Brian Duperreault was launched at a celebratory cocktail reception on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
“One hundred invited guests and VIPs, including Governor His Excellency Andrew Murdoch, Attorney General Kim Wilkerson, Opposition Leader Jarion Richardson and Chair of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers [ABIR] Mark Cloutier, gathered at The Chubb Building on Woodbourne Avenue in Bermuda to toast Duperreault and his 50-plus years in the industry.
“Duperreault’s biography, Faith & Purpose: The Life & Vision of Insurance Industry Icon Brian Duperreault, was written by Bermudian Wendy Davis Johnson and represents an intimate portrait of the industry leader’s personal and professional life gathered from interviews and research conducted over the last four years.
“Faith & Purpose begins with Duperreault’s birth in Bermuda in 1947 and charts his childhood in Trenton, New Jersey, his Jesuit education, his entry into the industry as an actuary trainee at American International Group [AIG] in 1973 and his subsequent rise to iconic status. The book’s narrative, an intensely personal one, is informed by Duperreault’s faith, his belief in the Jesuit tenet of service and his devotion to his family.
“During the reception, a check for $62,250, representing gross proceeds from pre-sale orders placed by Bermuda’s re/insurance sector, was presented in Duperreault’s honour by Cloutier to Chair of Bermuda College Foundation Garry Madeiros. The funds will support Bermudians studying industry-related subjects at the College.”
“It is with great pleasure that we present this check to Bermuda College Foundation on Brian’s behalf,” said Cloutier. “Members of ABIR, as well as the Association of Bermuda International Companies and many firms that provide services to our industry, demonstrated their gratitude to and admiration for Brian and all he’s done for our market and for Bermuda by placing orders for his biography with the knowledge that the proceeds would enable our young people to pursue a career in this great industry.

In accepting the presentation check, Madeiros also paid tribute to Duperreault’s impact on Bermuda, “Brian, you have had Bermuda’s wellbeing at the forefront since you returned to your birthplace in 1994. We are very appreciative of this donation, the timing of which couldn’t be better.
“In alignment with your tremendous contribution to Bermuda’s insurance industry and the community overall, we will be using these funds to support the development of a more robust Insurance Studies Programme at Bermuda College, to ensure Bermudians can continue to access world class insurance training and development right here at home. On behalf of everyone at the Foundation and at Bermuda College, thank you.”
